some are saying it will be tested with lsp2. .and some are saying it will be tested with business jet ....

Most likey Avro aircraft.

S Jha mentions UTTAM's integration with a Bussiness Jet. Avro 748 is not considered a BJ. Most probably the platform Sjha is referring to is 3rd EMB-145 which CABS owns (first two are owned by IAF for NETRA) and keeps it for Airborne Research and Testing.

Sjha says there will be 3 flying examples. So there is still a chance to integrate it with an LSP Tejas besides first one on a BJ.

Maybe for now they doing it on a BJ because all LSPs are busy with FOC formalities. Once FOC is acquired later this year. ADA will spare a couple of LSPs for Uttam integration and testing.

DRDO says they are applying a lot of lessons from development and fielding of the AESA unit on the Netra AEW aircraft in service with @IAF_MCC. Hoping for Uttam to be ready for certification and service entry some time in 2019.

Saurav Jha and Angand Singh say contradictory things. AS saying LCA LSP test bed will fly with uttam imminently, SJha saying a business jet will be shed as a flying test bed first

DRDO wants to sell super radar technology for fighter jets to industry, invites applications


India’s defence research and development organization (DRDO) wants to sell tech that it says it has developed for a `super radar’ for fighter jet aircraft and has asked the Indian Industry to submit proposals for transfer of technology (ToT).

The Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) has said that it is ready with its “Active Electronically Scanned Array Radar (AESAR)” technology and has four licenses to offer to the Indian industry. The lab has asked interested companies to submit their profiles to apply for the project.

The AESAR is a key requirement for all future jet fighter purchases by India, with efforts also on to integrate it to the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas that are on order by the Indian Air Force. In a recent note, DRDO gas said that its fire control Radar can be configured for use on any fighter class aircraft and has sought Expression of Interest (EOI) from prospective bidders.

“Active phased array technology in the Radar enables user to achieve high mission reliability with multi-target tracking capability. The radar operational modes are designed to assist the fighter pilot in the execution of various combat missions in air-to-air, air-to-ground and air-to-sea operations,” the DRDO note says.

AESA radars are at the heart of modern fighter aircraft and are integrated on all cutting edge jets like the Dassault Rafale and Boeing F/A 18 besides the fifth generation F 22 and F 35 fleet. These radars enable jets to detect enemy targets from a standoff distance without getting exposed. They can also track and target multiple threats simultaneously, giving one jet the ability to take down several targets. An AESA radar will also be a defining parameter for the upcoming contest to supply 110 fighter jets to India under a Make in India scheme.

Israeli company ELTA is equipping 58 of the Indian Air Force Jaguar jets with AESA radars as part of the upgrade plan. No other Indian Air Force fighter had the AESA radar yet but India is processing a global tender for AESA radars for a new fleet of 83 LCA MK 1A fighters for which also ELTA has been down selected.

The integration of an AESA radar was a key parameter for the air force to clear the order for 83 LCA Mk 1A fighters, after years of blocking the indigenous fighter on concerns that it would not be combat worthy.

True but it looks like UTTAM will be ready around the same time that MK.1A enters production, hard to justify an imported AESA unless the integration with LCA's weapon suite is expected to take a while.
As of now UTTAM is ready only as hardware. Software for different modes (AA, AG & AS) are being written & tested.
But none of those mean they are a fire-control-radar for any missiles. Missile specific info needs to be coded into the radar software so that the radar can help cue the weapons. And beyond that comes the actual testing of he missiles.
Despite all the optimism, I doubt if Uttam will be completely ready for Mk1A.

Software was developed some time ago , don't know about what are the modules in it . Air to Air capabilities are achieved for sure .
Air-to-air was tested only with a stationary platform. Only recently it's integrated on an aircraft - thus far only 3 sorties done......long way to go.
Air-to-ground, air-to-sea, SAR etc still to be done.

what means "ready" ? Maybe the hardware is ready, but what about soft?
A radar without the software and trials returns and data base is useless.
Thales AESA radar is continuously improved since 5+ years , and used all the job made for the PESA model nearly 15 years before.

Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), a premier lab under DRDO has developed state-of-art Radar systems and associated technologies. LRDE is seeking Expression of Interest (EOI) from prospective bidders/recipient for Transfer of Technology in the area of Radars.

Presently, LRDE is ready for ToT for the “Active Electronically Scanned Array Radar (AESAR)”. Prospective bidders for EOI are advised to refer the document, “Guidelines for Transfer of Technology” published in the Transfer of Technology link on the website, www.drdo.gov.in for the terms and conditions to be complied by the bidders for receipt of technology.

1 Description of Technology: The AESA Radar is multimode, solid-state active phased array fire control Radar in XBand with modular and scalable architecture with graceful degradation that can be adapted for various types of airborne fighter class platforms. The Active Electronically Scanned Array is configured using large number of Transmit Receive Modules (TRM’s) to achieve the power aperture required for the Radar. The processing is achieved using state of the art Exciter Receiver Processor (ERP) optimised for use on fighter class platforms. Active phased array technology in the Radar enables user to achieve high mission reliability with multi-target tracking capability. The radar operational modes are designed to assist the fighter pilot in the execution of various combat missions in air-to-air, air-to-ground and air-to-sea operations.

2 Salient Features: The AESA based fire control radar is capable of providing interleaved multimode of operation to meet the operational requirements of the fighter aircraft. The radar has stateof–the-art ECCM features. The Radar provides better situational awareness of the modern battlefield scenario. It is capable of tracking multiple targets with high accuracy suitable for Radar Sub-Systems AAAU ERP Front-End Cooling Unit 2/2 fire control along with interleaved Air to Air, Air to Ground and Air to Sea modes in all terrain solution.

3 Application Areas The AESA based fire control Radar can be configured for use on any fighter class aircraft.

Interested Industries may submit their company profile, financial & technical Capabilities etc. as per the EOI terms (Refer Appendix-G in ‘Guidelines for ToT’ document) to Director, LRDE, Bangalore and copy to Director DI2TM on the following addresses within 45 days of this advertisement.

Uttam has been delinked from LCA mk1a. However the software for a2a,a2g ,sar and other modes have been written. It needs to be tested and debugged only. Previously LRDE had built a small tech demonstrator aesa radar and tested it on a helicopter. They are pretty much confident on integration within 2 years.

Matching ELTA 2032 initially is ok but subsequently it should match ELTA 2052 atleast if not better.

For that test flying on a LCA LSP needs to start ASAP.

We saw it was integrated on the ground with a LCA test bed a while ago now but no test flights to date.

Uttam can be ready for MK1A IMHO but Hal and IAF will have to agree.
