Five months after 23 people died in a stampede at suburban Elphinstone Road railway station, a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) constructed by the Indian Army was thrown open to the public on Tuesday.

Two FoBs at Currey Road and Ambivli stations on Central Railway were also inaugurated in presence of railway minister Piyush Goyal, minister of state for defence Subhash Bhamre, and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The FoBs were constructed by the Army Engineers in a record 117 days.

Acknowledging the feat, both Goyal and Fadnavis thanked the Army for its contribution and completion of the FOBs in record time.

UDAY EXPRESS : India's First Business Class DOUBLE DECKER Express Train

Uday Express or Utkrisht Double Decker Air Conditioned Express is a business class double decker AC chair car train designed by Indian Railways. This service is designed for short routes. And I'm elated that it will run between Coimbatore and Bangalore. I can now leave my car at home!! :biggrin2:

Cheers!

Looks like the younger brother of the French TGV though not as plush and obviously not as fast! The latter is carpeted throughout the aisles and has a good soft drink bar too. I'm not sure if this train has one.

India seeks China's help for speeding-up of Bengaluru-Chennai train corridor
https://www.deccanherald.com/content/670539/india-seeks-chinas-help-speeding.html

India has sought China's assistance to speed up Bangalore-Chennai railway corridor besides redevelopment of Agra and Jhansi railway stations, a senior Indian official said on Sunday.

The proposal was made at the Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) held here between the two countries.

"We offered them speeding up of Bangalore-Chennai railway corridor," Niti Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar said on Sunday.

The SED was held between delegations headed by Kumar and He Lifeng, the chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

The proposal was made for increasing the speed of the corridor to 150 kmph.

India previously made a proposal to China for the redevelopment of Agra and Jhansi railway station. It has been reemphasised at Sunday's talks, officials said.

The Chinese side will respond after considering the proposals, they said.

Kumar said it was pointed out to the Chinese side that the railway station development plan is a big one involving about 600 of them. They can bid for any of them, he said.

However, there was no discussion in the just concluded SED about the collaboration to build high-speed trains by China in India, he said.

China has been expressing interest to take up high-speed train corridors in India and began conducting a feasibility study for New Delhi and Chennai high-speed train corridor.

The first high-speed train corridor in India between Mumbai and Ahmedabad has been bagged by Japan.

China has the world's longest high-speed rail network, with 22,000 km within the country linking various top cities.

Highly doubtful as of now that chinese would be interested in construction part of this project, because of the make in india component of the tender. But they can go for the financing part of the tender.

Yeah..........

Wish we could also change our bogie to Jacob's bogie type. But looking at our railway, I could understand what it would mean. So lets make maximum use of current one.

Will enable commuters to take direct rides to CMBT and airport
The Chennai Central Metro Rail station will open on Friday, allowing commuters to travel directly from the station to two crucial transport hubs — the CMBT and the airport.

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Housing And Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri will inaugurate the stretches — Nehru Park to Central and Saidapet to AG-DMS at the Chennai Egmore Metro Rail station on Friday.

Deputy Chief Minister O. Pannerselvam, Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and other Ministers, including M.C. Sampath and D. Jayakumar, will be present.

Frequency up

The frequency of trains will go up from Friday, from seven minutes to five during rush hours. Alternatively, there will be a train every five minutes from Central to the airport and from Central to St. Thomas Mount, sources said. “If the number of users goes up, we may increase the frequency to two and half minutes,” he added.

The opening of the Central Metro Rail station also increases the maximum fare by ₹10. Hence, the longest journey by the Metro, from Central to the airport, will cost ₹70. At present, the minimum fare is ₹10 and the maximum fare is ₹60.

The stretch from Central to Nehru Park covers a distance of 2.7 km. The stretch from Saidapet to AG-DMS is 4 km. This will allow commuters to travel directly to the airport from AG-DMS.

While the Saidapet Metro station is located close to Panagal Maligai, the AG-DMS station is near the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services.

Japanese funding

The two stretches are part of the phase I project that cost ₹14,600 crore.

The government of Japan had given ₹110 billion, the Consul General of Japan said.

New Indian Railways line close to China: This railway link to Tawang is coming up at a height of 10,000 feet!

By: Devanjana Nag
|Published: July 3, 2018 2:48 PM

The length of the existing road from Bhalukpung to Tawang is 285 km, however, the railway line would measure only 166 km. Almost 80% of the railway line would pass through tunnels, the longest tunnel being 29.48 km...…….

This is going to be a white elephant for us......................

To be honest, I don't care if its AP or TN. They did something good. That's the point.
