Maharashtra incurs cost of Rs 9 cr on helicopter surveillance of Naxal-infested areas
MUMBAI: The state government has incurred a cost of Rs 9 crore on helicopter surveillance of the Naxal areas of the Maharashtra.

Government Resolutions that were issued on Monday mention that of the Rs 10 crore that have been incurred, Rs 5 crore were disbursed on January 3 and the remaining Rs 4 crore was sanctioned today.

Officials from the home department said that the government has a contract of Rs 19 crore with helicopter operator Pawan Hans, and has used its services in Gadchiroli, Nanded, Yavatmal, Gondhia areas and incurred a cost of Rs 10 crore last year.

"We use helicopters for aerial surveillance, as there are some areas that cannot be accessed on foot. The government had its own helicopter, but it has been nonfunctional for the want to repairs,"said a senior official

In 2015, 56 naxals have surrendered themselves to the police in Gadchiroli district of the state, highest in the last five years and not a single police personnel casualty was caused during operations, a first in the last 10 years. And 26 naxalities were arrested by co-ordinated operations by the police and the special force.

This is TN police commando unit in coimbatore..
They have assault dogs? That’s about the only thing impressive about this unit

To date I’ve only seen assault dogs with NSG, AP police (OCTOPUS) and now TN. Not even MH force one or Mumbai QRT have this advanced capability

YES.. TN Commandos have dedicated K9 units.. Also this is Coimbatore sector of TN police commandos, They lesser armed than other major cities like Chennai... Infact Chennai police commandos are better equipped than Delhi and other Northern states.. Exception of Mumbai police...

View attachment 45545 TN commando don't use the bullet resistant visor but same helmet
What’s the point in having visors that aren’t bullet resistant?

and ancient unmodified AKs with no sights for any weapon is not acceptable for a unit like this

Every single police officer in India should be wearing a body camera that they cannot tamper with and no fines should be legally enforceable unless there is photographic/ video evidence of wrongdoing.

but I bet the entire contents of my wallet that you won’t find even 1% of the entire TN police force with that gear (radio, camera and high vis vest) on the streets
Mostly for major cities. But more than body cams, it should be weapons provided that should be the focus. Every beat cop should have one. A lathi just wont do.
Having a firearm like evry cop in America has , demands/encourages cooperation. You won’t have goons threatening cops anymore.
