NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has pledged full support of his government to the political process in Nepal.
"India is ready to extend her full support to the political process in Nepal and I want tofurther assure that such support from our side will always be as per the wish of the Nepali side," said Manmohan Singh, while speaking at a dinner organised in honour of Nepal's visiting President RamBaran Yadav last night. He also expressed confidence that final decision on the political course in Nepal will betaken by the Nepali people and the domestic political forces.
"As to the course of Nepali politics, it should be determined by the country and its forces there — there will no like or dislike from our side," a source quoted the Indian prime minister as saying.
Irrigation Minister Mahendra Yadav and senior officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and the Delhi-based Nepalese Embassy were present during the meeting from the Nepali side.
President Yadav also held one-to-one meeting with Manmohan Singh and told him about the efforts being made for institutionalising the political change in Nepal. President's Press Adviser Rajendra Dahal said PresidentYadav informed the Indian prime minister about the progress on Constituent Assembly election and consensus among the parties.
President Yadav also met Indian National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon, India's Home Minster Sushilkumar Shinde and IndianForeign Secretary Ranjan Mathai separately this afternoon.
He is scheduled to meet IndianDefence Minister AK Antony and other opposition party leaders tomorrow.
