Indian Officer Says India Will Keep Buying Russian Weapons

Published July 31, 2015 | By admin
SOURCE: Sputnik

India has no intention to stop purchasing Russian arms, an Officer of the Mechanised Infantry Regiment of the Indian Army, Lt. Col. Vivek Suryakant Badve, said Thursday.

“I would rather disagree,” Badve told RIA Novosti, commenting on an opinion voiced by some experts that India will gradually stop buying Russian armament, replacing it with weapons of domestic production and purchasing with other countries.

He added that Russian military equipment was of high quality and widely used in India, including for training.

Russia and India are major military commerce partners. Over 70 percent of Indian Army weaponry is of Russian or Soviet production.

Russia sells about $4.5 billion worth of military equipment and weapons to India annually, according to Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation estimates.

Here comes the Armata Brigade .... and he not only gave assurances against other countries....but also against DOMESTIC WEAPONS.
He could have said Russia is preferred and must compete with/ work with Indian domestic labs. But No the Armata brigade is too eager to spend precious forex
@Bhadra
Have anything to say?

Only one direct quote in the whole report based on what Lt. Col. Vivek Suryakant Badve said

“I would rather disagree,” Badve told RIA Novosti

WTH was the question:
Do you think, India will stop buying Russian weapons?

Or
Is your wife sleeping with another man?
Are you sleeping with another man's wife?
Are you sleeping with another man?
Is your wife sleeping with another woman? :p

What kind of report is that.

Russia has a large mic, 1/3rd of Russian manufacturing jobs are defence.

Since soviet collapse, other countries especially India China have been holding it up. Let's be honest for next 10-15 years only Russian can compete with USA at very high end.

Thing with t-14 is far as I know, Arjun mark 2 is still go.

However they want something heavier than a jeep, lighter than a tank with a turret. A heavy ifv & they want armata tech.

Could simply be manpower preservation, the elite of Indian military has lower tfr. Attack on 6th dogra probably woke them up, to wanting to protect their 3 largest military tribes.

I like the way you western chamchas behave more Indian than even us Indians living and working in India.

The Army officer is not in the wrong. The report is. And to go on a thread planting exercise without any attributable quote shows the level of slavery that you western chamchas are possessed off.

Even if the Indian Army wants to buy Russian equipment why the "hai lut gayi" cry. Priority should be to Indian domestic production after that it is obviously the Russians that take priority for reasons of long fruitful cooperation. Off course after that if still there is a gap then the western countries should be approached.

Also agreed that a large number of Indan Army officers would rather import for various reasons but then times are changing and they too will fall in line with the larger national goals. After all the armed forces are dominated by Indians who are likely to remain and bear families in India. They will obviously have an India centric frame of reference.

Sir, to hell with the US and west, for your kind information.

You are new on DFI sir, go through old threads if you like. There are many such threads exists on DFI.

You can find it on those threads that it is in India's interest to be on western side.

And we don't want to see India as another Russia or China.

We all know how good and super duper Russian equipment are, on top of it we all know our super duper politicians and we know them very well. That is why we have to cry and make sure our super duper govt don't buy more Russian arms.

Nothing else.

Those who are going all out against Russian product quality should have a talk with a serving personnel atleast once instead of making conclusions just based on what you read on the net, most of which are by amateurs like us.

This is an off the cuff remark by a PBI officer. A Lieut Col is too junior to make a comment on such matters.

Any way a Lt.Col commanding a field unit is the most suitable person to comment about the performance.
