You don't sink it, you fire warning shots and escort it out of the test area. India can say it was done for "safety reasons." I get away with so much crap using that excuse.
OK,Mr. first of all , thats no crap, India just avoided unnecessary arguments.. these tests were planned to be carried out in an island in orissa .... that ship might not have been in the indian waters but it WAS spying on .... call it crap, excuse or whatever... ur arrogance wont cover up the real facts that the defence team was being spied on....

Well, it seems that Indian Navy isn't capable enough to counter China even in its own backyard, forget dreams of power projection in international waters with a blue-water navy, which I don't think it will even by 2020 ! First, protect your own backyard then dream big !
No body dreams that joker, India is a blue water navy, but at the same time it does a lot of mistakes... no body dreams big here.. ever citizen of every country wants their country to be on top... if u laugh at that then I would really doubt ur argument.

When there is no political will then what else do you expect ?

no political party has the will to have an aggressive foreign policy. our country works opposite to the world....anna sham fast wouldn't have worked in any country except India. Majority of people in our country dont like to be aggressive...its one of the reasons why throughout history we didn't expand the borders of India except for a few instances.

Could always board the trawler on suspicion of drug trafficking etc, and have a thorough look around. Fat chance the Chinese can do anything against it.

More visits by the Indian Navy to Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia and the South China Seas is required.

And then some naval 'friendly' interoperability exercises.

Watch, your tongue, pal !! Only an idiot like you would say that India is a blue water navy. It seems from your ignorant comments, you don't know squat about a "Blue water navy" in the first place !

We all love our country, pal. I am no different than you in that respect. My comment was meant to be sarcastic, bad for you that you didn't get it !

Finally, since you are new here, learn some decency in your language, especially when you have limited knowledge about something !

Yeah, that's right, man. If you can't find out a spy ship disguised as a trawler, then forget about finding PLAN subs in Indian waters ! And some people come here with a foolish sense of pride, and have excuses for everything.

You missed the point of what I said. I was saying escort the ship out of the test area for "safety reasons." It don't matter if it is international waters when enforcing SAFETY. It is a legal excuse to get spy ships off your coast during a launch. Since India forewarns launches well in advance, it can set a SAFETY ZONE in its EEZ. I use "safety reasons" in my reports all the time of why I couldn't inspect a sight. In China this is well accepted of Westerns not to go.

China announces plan to expand seabed mining in Indian Ocean

China announces plan to expand seabed mining in Indian Ocean - The Economic Times

BEIJING: China today announced plans to expand its seabed mineral explorations in the Indian Ocean after an international authority approved its bid to mine for polymetallic sulphide ore, much to the surprise of India.

Beijing has already got approval to explore in a 10,000 sq km seabed area in southwest Indian Ocean for the ore and now it plans to invest more to expand the "depth and scope of oceanic research".

Following the approval, China's Ocean Mineral Resources Research and Development Association is set to sign a 15-year exploration contract with the International Seabed Authority (ISA) later this year granting pre-emptive rights for it to develop the ore deposit in future, state run Xinhua reported.

"We will expand the depths and scope of oceanic research and improve our understanding of the ocean, with special focuses on the polar regions and deep sea environments," Liu Cigui, head of the State Oceanic Administration (SOA), told a meeting on oceanic technology here.

The move has already raised concerns in India with Directorate of Naval Intelligence (DNI) informing the Indian government that the contract would provide an excuse for China to operate its warships besides compiling data on the vast mineral resources in India's backyard.

Chinese released a guideline on the oceanic science and technology development between 2011 and 2015, vowing to invest more to boost the country's maritime economy.

Liu said more efforts will be made to boost innovation and strive for breakthroughs in key technology in order to stimulate the development of emerging oceanic industries but did not mention the amount money China will be investing.

The announcement followed China's bid for exploring the international seabed region of southwest Indian Ocean for polymetallic sulphide deposit was approved by ISA, last month much to the surprise of India.

China has been granted the right to explore the area in red for mineral deposits.

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether Government is aware that China is set to acquire a deep-sea mining license in the Central Indian Ocean to tap its mineral resources;
(b) whether the International Sea-bed Authority consulted India and other Indian Ocean countries in this connection; and
(c) whether Government is concerned about this development in the Indian Ocean ?

ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS (SHRI E. AHAMED)

(a) to (c) Government is aware that the International Seabed Authority (ISA) has approved the plan of work for exploration of polymetallic sulphides by China Ocean Mineral Resources Research and Development Association (COMRA). ISA is an institution established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) mandated for governance of areas lying beyond national maritime jurisdictions of States. The Chinese plan of work for exploration in the southwest Indian Ocean Ridge is in an area beyond the national jurisdiction of any State. It will be carried out under the regulatory framework adopted by ISA for polymetallic sulphide exploration. Government keeps a constant watch on all developments having a bearing on India's national interest and takes all necessary measures to safeguard it.

well in that case goi and indian navy should do deep sea mining in south china sea - it is shallower and thus cheaper/easier and should be better returns - besides now india can say it's just tit for tat .
