Any idea what sub is this??
Clearly it is not from the Arihant class, Kalvari class, Kilo class, Type 209 class.
Can be spotted at 1:58 in this video.

it is way too long to be kalvari class sub.
It is Kalvari. The Conning tower and the rudder shape proves it.
You are getting the elongated feeling only because the top part of Rudder is seen in the picture. Nothing more then illusion.

Underwater test of K-4 ballistic missile from INS Arihant off Vizag coast likely Sunday

BHUBANESWAR: With India turning its focus on anti-ballistic and nuclear-tipped underwater weapon systems, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is reportedly set to conduct a crucial test of intermediate-range submarine-launched ballistic missile K-4 on Sunday.

The indigenously developed most potent missile capable of delivering nuclear warheads at 3500 km away will be test-fired from an underwater platform, most likely INS Arihant submarine, nearly 30 nautical miles off Visakhapatnam coast.

The test assumes significance as the missile has been planned after several failed attempts in the last two years.

Though it was finally ready for trial in November last year, the test had to be deferred following very severe cyclonic storm Bulbul in the Bay of Bengal.

India has already issued notice to airmen (Notam) for regulating the movement of flights during test window.

Though the test window has been cited January 19 to 21 in the Notam, the test will most likely take place on Sunday.

Seafarers have also been alerted accordingly and coastal patrolling intensified prior.

A Ministry of Defence (MoD) official confirmed that the range and missile integration have been completed and the stage is set for the K series missile, but he refused to divulge details about the secrete mission as it has international ramifications.

DRDO scientists are leaving no stone unturned for the success of K-4 trial as it will pave the way for its early induction and boost the development of its long-range sibling K-5, which will have a strike range of 5,000 km.

The highly manoeuvrable missile having an innovative technology of interlacing in three dimensions can also cruise at hypersonic speed.

“The exceptional feature of the underwater missile makes it difficult to be tracked and destroyed by any anti-ballistic missile defence system,” the sources claimed.

India is one among six nations including the US, Russia, France, UK and China that have the capability of firing nuclear-tipped missiles from all three platforms - land, air and undersea.

India Successfully Test-Fires Nuclear-Capable K-4 Missile Off Andhra Pradesh Coast: Report
The K-4 missile is being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for being deployed on the fleet of the Arihant Class nuclear submarines being built by India.

  • India successfully test-fired the 3,500 km strike range K-4 missile
  • The K-4 missile is a nuclear-capable ballistic missile
  • The test-firing was carried out off the coast of Andhra Pradesh
New Delhi:
India on Sunday successfully test-fired the 3,500 km strike range nuclear-capable K-4 submarine-launched ballistic missile off the coast of Andhra Pradesh, further strengthening capabilities to hit enemy targets from submarines.

The test-firing was carried out from an underwater platform in the sea during the daytime, government sources told ANI.

The missile is being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for being deployed on the fleet of the Arihant Class nuclear submarines being built by India.

India is expected to carry out more tests of the missile before it is ready for being equipped on the nuclear submarines. At the moment, only the first nuclear boat INS Arihant is operational for the Navy.

K-4 is one of the two underwater missiles that are being developed by India for its submarine force.

The other one is the over 700-kilometre strike range BO-5.

It seems like Brazil converted scorpene class into SSN with design modifications.
The first nuclear powered attack submarine of #Brazil seems based on Riachuelo class , which itself is enlarged Scorpene class made for the nation.
Comparing to Scorpene (~66 m) Riachuelo is much larger (~72 m) and SSN Alvaro Alberto will be 100 m long. Displacement 6000T. https://t.co/Xutyxtrx4M

s4 launching this year would love to know it's name:biggrin2:.
S4 SSBN launch and INS Arighat induction later this year.

SOURCE: IDRW NEWS NETWORK

According to the report prepared by the Sandeep Unnithan for MailToday, INS Arighat which is sister class ship of INS Arihant will be ready for induction in Indian Navy by mid of this year since it is nearing its sea trials while biggest technological achievement of the Indian Navy and to India’s nuclear triad will be that the Nuclear Ballistic missile submarine was only known by its Internal code name as S4 is ready for its sea trials by end of this year.

S4 is an entended Arihant class design that has twice the weapons carrying capability than the Arihant class. S4 can carry 8 K-4 SLBM with a range of 3500km or 24 K-15 SLBM with a range of over 800km in its 8 vertical launch tubes. As per the report, S4 sister class ship called S4* (Star) will be ready for sea trials by 2022 and induction by 2024. S4 and S4* will be SSBMs which largely will be getting K-4 and K-5 SLBM missiles, while Arighat and Arihant will be limited to shorter K-15 SLBMs. K-5 SLBM is a new missile which is yet to be tested and reportedly has a range of 5000km, while DRDO already got approvals to design and develop K-6 SLBM which has a range of 8000km with MIrV Weapons payload to be armed on S5 Class Nuclear Ballistic missile submarines which India plans to construct after completion of S4*.

@porky_kicker remember the recently found hydrodynamic model of the probable S-5 class SSBN ? VP Naidu tweeted the photo. It seems somebody made a rough sketch out of that model for the Wikipage on the S-5 :

From the sketch it is pretty good looking actually. The BM hump shoulder doesn't seem like a eyesore from this angle.
They just copied the provisional sketch made by HI Sutton, just removed all the colour -

Actual design will turn out to be quite different.
