Paying $3 Billion for refurbishing an age old submarine sound exorbitant - once again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Considering it only costs a billion for a new one then I agree, to pay three billion is absurd.

We're getting technology transfer for SSN & 190mw miniature submarine nuclear reactors. Indian engineers will be working side by side while making this submarine and many subsystems will be developed in India and will be fitted in ins chakra3. After refurbishment the submarine will be as good as new as it will have normal 20 to 30years life as Russian submarine hull is made from titanium and so have huge life...
Not a bad deal if we get required TOT since no one shares nuclear technology. In future the same reactors can and will power nuclear air craft carriers....

People in defence ministry aren't that moron not atleast in Modi government nor it's CONgress thief government to get kickbacks/commission. Also we did pay for russians for helping construction of ins Arihant including tot under ins Vikramaditya contract....

India already builds nuclear submarines. Leasing them from Russia at 3X the cost of a new one and to only get it for 10 years??? Any why is India buying Talwar frigates at 3X the original cost when they already make better frigates? The Gorshkov should have been the biggest scandal in India's history but no one went after it. When it comes to obvious graft Russian deals get swept under the rug but when there is no graft France gets attacked endlessly.

Yes,we need a miniaturised high power reactor than that of our boomers for our SSNs.
I hope we paid the hefty sum keepin dat in mind too.

A L&T SSN/SSBN design bureau exists somewhere in North India.. it is a state of the art facility which allows interactive design etc where the designer can do a virtual walk through.

Anyways this info cannot be corroborated , so best taken with a pinch of salt.

What do you think the Arihant is? For India to take its place among the defence producers of the world it must replace someone in the current order of producers. To compete against the likes of the US and France is not the place you start, knocking out Russia and China from the competition is where India can poach orders by offering low cost and reliable platforms. Once India breaks the billion dollar barrier of defence exports per year, you will see Russia and Chinese exports being taken over by India who will work their way up the value chain.
