Not sonar but sonabouy. Unless it was referring to a dipping sonar transponder from a helicopter which somehow dislodged.

Sonabouys are expendable so no big deal. Dipping sonar would be a real coup

No we're not returning back. Lease agreement is only to circumvent international laws which prevents sales of nuclear weapons and subs. Also the agreement has options to buy it at the end of agreement. No russian officer is on chakra 2, chakra 1 had though. For all intents and purposes chakra 2 has been bought by india. Chakra 3 again is a buy with technology transfer since our engineers will be working from the start. Also technology transfer of High power next gen miniature nuclear reactors for our subs and aircraft carrier is included hence the steep price..:biggrin2:

Can you see steps welded in tube? It seems unfit to launch any missile. It is just too big.

Russia doesn't want it back. They leased it because it was a surplus equipment they didn't have the budget to operate. The budget situation has not gotten any better and they have a new class replacing them. The money India pays is funding Russia's equipment plan.

Will include ToT for Indian SSN project. Also we need a stop gap so not a bad investment!

INS Chakra. Arihant is slimmer and more like Type 204 class hull.

    That's speculation at this point.

But the fact remains that Arihant has already been built (with Russian ToT). To make is an SSN is not too much of a stretch.....

Wrong! Complexity iss in miniaturising nuclear reactor and hull design to absolutely reduce noise. India needs a smaller and more powerful reactor and Russia is the only country other than US, France, UK and China to have expertise!

Coincidentally IN chief visited France regarding this discussion.

The miniaturizing of the nuclear reactor was already done! That was the ATV project - S1 !!

Sure that the hunter submarines need to be quieter than the SSBNs, but I doubt that should cost $2billion!!!
