Future warfare.

Cyber capabilities and electronic warfare are silently heating up the race for developing offensive and defensive capabilities. China is using these very effective and low-cost solutions to counter the increased presence of the United States Navy in the Malacca Strait and the South China Sea. In 2017, four US naval warships collided with civilian ships killing 17 sailors. In January 2017, the USS Antietam ran aground near Yosuka, Japan. Next was the cruiser USS Champlain, that collided with that collided with a South Korean shipping boat. Navy personnel had spotted the South Korean shipping boat, but could not contact it because the boat had no radio or GPS! On June 17, 2017, the USS Fitzgerald hit a Philipino container, killing seven sailors. Finally, USS Destroyer John McCain collided with a merchant vessel killing ten sailors. The collision left a gaping hole in the hull of the Destroyer.

International cyber security experts refuse to see coincidence or human error in these four incidents that occurred in or around the hyperactive Malacca Strait or the South China Sea area. They suspect a cyber/electronic attack behind these collisions, especially after the fourth collision. Commercial maritime tracking data, that is used to monitor ship movement
showed that a Chinese vessel was shadowing the merchant vessel that hit the USS John McCain. The Chinese vessel veered away shortly before the collision. This increased the US Navy investigators’ suspicions of a possible Chinese electronic attack

May 2017, just a month prior to the India-China Doklam stand-off, an IAF Su-30MKI took off from the IAF base at Tejpur and crashed near the Indo-China border. One of the suspected reasons for the crash was cyber interference with onboard computers. Perhaps that is why both the pilots could not activate the safe ejection system, though one of the pilots was an experienced Squadron Leader. And then in December 2017, we lost a drone in the Doklam area. It was on a routine flying mission and crashed into Chinese territory. India cited technical issues with the flying machine but China claimed that India was punished for not behaving properly

GRSE lays keel of the first large survey vessel

Kolkata: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) laid the keel of the first Survey Vessel (Large) in Kolkata.

This first ship is part of the four large Survey Vessels order won by GRSE in competitive bidding process in October 2018. The contract for four Survey Vessel Large was signed between GRSE and Government of India, Ministry of Defence. The total value of the order is Rs 2435.15 crore.

The first ship is to be delivered within 36 months from contract signing date with a project completion time of 54 months.

These vessels are 110m long with deep displacement of 3300 tonne and can accommodate 231 personnel. The vessel will have a cruising speed of 16 knots. The hull form of these new generations Survey Vessel also meets the stringent seakeeping and manoeuvring requirements including helicopter operations at high sea states.

With their state-of-the-art “Survey Payload” comprising of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, Remote Operated Vehicles, Multi Beam Echo Sounders etc, these Survey Ships will prove to be a game changer in the Indian Navy’s capabilities for coastal and deepwater hydrographic surveys aiding maritime operations. In their secondary role, they will be capable of performing limited search and rescue, limited ocean research and operate as hospital ship or casualty holding ships.

The warship builder posted a more than four-fold jump in net profit to Rs 59.02 crore in the second-quarter (Q2) of the current fiscal, on the back of higher revenue. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 12.78 crore in the corresponding period of 2018-19.

Revenue from operations for the quarter ended September 30, 2019, stood at Rs 439.02 crore compared to Rs 217.70 crore clocked in the same period of previous year. As many as 22 projects are in various stages of construction, with an order book of Rs 27,400 crore, the company said.

Cuz its a very critical wing considering the vast vast coastal land of ours.
and UMRICANS are untrustable when it comes to technology .

as for now..Navy is very efficient in indigenousing stuffs..let it be such..

Yup, and that's the primary reason IN is rarely criticised here at DFI. they have a roadmap decades in advance, and other two are good at selecting from brochures only.

My personal take is:
US has nothing to offer in certain requirements of Indian navy- US naval force is primarily built around US requirements of having large carrier battle groups escorted by nuclear submarines and heavy cruisers. Every equipment on these ships is tailored and lacks flexibility.

Rest of the world is more savvy (especially Europe) and has diversified shipbuilding into light cruisers, frigates and destroyers that are affordable to others and modern.

Where US can offer products is in sensors, weapons, naval aviation and logistics. I think cooperation in these sectors is excellent. P-8A/I, MH-60R, Sea Guardian UAV, Mk-54/46 torpedoes, Harpoon and hopefully NSM are already in operation or being considered.
So I do see very bright future ahead.

Indian Navy seeks placement opportunities for veteran sailors in Qatar Navy

The Indian Navy has taken measures to provide placement opportunities for its veteran sailors for their second innings with friendly nations, Southern Naval Command Chief of Staff Rear Admiral R J Nadkarni said on Sunday. A memorandum of understanding had been signed with the Qatar Navy in this regard, he told the 11th Annual General Body Meeting of the Veteran Sailors Forum's Kochi Charter at the Naval Base here.
