5.4 lacs for a single gun????
Isn't it a bit costly.

This is a fast track purchase for the LMG requirements of front-line units. Earlier the Negev 7 had emerged as L1 in the previous tender but was scrapped, possibly due to IWI not being a private company.

Indian MoD Cancelled Tender for Light Machine Guns

The contract was scrapped after Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) emerged as the sole vendor with its Negev NG7 model, after beating the LMG fielded by Bulgaria in user trials

Adani buys unit in Gwalior to enter small arms business

By Manu Pubby, ET Bureau | Updated: Jan 08, 2020, 08.18 PM IST

The Adani Group has entered the small arms business with the acquisition of a facility in Gwalior that will produce machine guns, carbines and other weapons for the local and export markets.

The acquisition – through a joint venture in which Israeli manufacturer IWI holds a 49% stake – will help the group acquire capabilities ranging from UAVs to helicopter systems to major aero structures.

The main cost issue with the Negev 7 is weight and spare barrels. Comes out to $6000 per LMG, compared to $990 per SIG 716i (DI), $1150 per CAR 816 (SSP) and $1100 per AK - 203/Indian Variant (LSP).

Congratulations !

BTW technical data of NG7 posted here is incorrect at a point, that is it doesn't have "dual feeding" feature on it i.e. being able to feed from both belt and magazine - 5.56 NATO version of Negev has it as shown here

Negev 5.56 NATO machine gun in belt fed configuration, used by IA personnel (belt consisting disintregrated links between rounds is housed inside that "pouch" that is fitted on magazine well of the machine gun)

Negev machine gun in 5.56 NATO,being fed with a STANAG pattern magazine via that mag well adapter on it

^Such configuration is not there on 7.62 NATO NG-7 version of the gun and it can only feed from disintergrating link belts.

I am going to pose a combat question about this light machine gun?

What is the difference between a soldier carrying a Sig rifle and firing a soldier firing Negev LMG except the LMG soldier has a large volume of ammunition.

Well it is like comparing oranges and apples, Negev is an LMG and Sig 716 is a DMR.
Negev weighs 7.95 kg(gun only) and Sig 716 weighs 4.3 kg.
Negev due to its higher weight has way lesser recoil compared to 716.
Another thing is that Negev in most use cases would be fired in laying down position whereas Sig 716 would be fired in upright position.
As per the Sig website, Sig 716 Patrol G2 fires in semi-auto mode and not full-auto.
Also the range of Negev is 1200m compared to 716's 800m.
To conclude,
For precision kills, Sig 716 is way to go.
For all-out bloodbath and massacre, Negev is your choice.

Thanks, a few of your points are invalid but others are useful.

Sig 716i is DI and particularly for full auto using 7.62x51 to reduce recoil and make it more accurate.

Negev N7 can be used like a SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon).

Each army section of 10 men is divided into assault(7) & support (3) groups
Assault group is equipped with ar while 1 out of the 3 members in the support group is equipped with lmg , the other 2 members of the support group are equipped with smg

So effectively -

1) 7 x Sig 716i + 1 x NG7 + 2 x CAR 816

2) 7 x AK 203 + 1 x OFB GPMG (?) + 2 x CAR 816
