People here call names to generals, army and forces as if they are their domestic servants, cast aspirations without any basis ... that seems to very fashionable . Is not that?
No. There is no such attempt. Emotions MUST NOT replace reason.

The problem is you forget the military men are also public servants. Once you get this point in your head, it will be easier to understand.

@plugwater, you should educate yourself how GOI works.

The services have to raise a GSQR to MOD who then decides if it wants to buy it from abroad or local sources. DRDO works on a project only when MOD asks it to.

If DRDO is asked to work on a project, then suitable timeframe will be given to it.

India faces fx shortage even today. Saving fx is a serious objective. Defence is importing too much. The GOI has to bring in strategies to reduce military imports.

Indian Army, I think knows its job well and this kind of Trade Unionism, chest thumping and defamatory approach would not do. They are a professional body and should be allowed to do their job. Do not dictate to them if their AMR should be of 25 kg or 14 kg. That is very simple. Make 14 kg AMR and give it to them then ask questions.

This trade unionism such as reducing the range of missile to fit to DRDO specifications should not be resorted to.

The specification for weapons / GSQR are well thought out, discussed and decided at many levels including by representatives of DRDO. Leave it at that
Yes, because everybody knows that importing a 30 kg gun from Denel and turning down a 25 Kg Indian gun two years later on the grounds of weight reeks of absolute professionalism.

sorry do not agree with the bold part. DRDO Submits the R&D proposal to MoD who in turns deliberates on it and releases the funding. yes there are exceptions when MoD asks DRDO to take up a project but these are rare.

Then the mod should collect data about its need in futer and should request DRDO to work on it. They should also take feed backs from man using them and should make the weapons suitable for army need. Army should be the authorized persons to submit the r&d proposal.
