Ugandan prez lauds Indian Army's advise to UPDF on curriculum
The Indian Army is advising Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) in curriculum revision and capability building, an effort lauded by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, according to a statement today.

The current Indian Military Advisory and Training Team is deployed at the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) in Jinja, Uganda since April 2016.



"Their contributions to the curriculum revision, student assimilation enhancement and capability building of the local directing staff have been appreciated by no less than the President of Uganda," the statement released by the Army said.

The team, through its rapport and positive interaction, has been successful in mobilising the local Indian community in provisioning a state of art gymnasium to the SCSC, it said.

The equipment for the gymnasium, worth more than USD 30,000, has been imported from Dubai.

The gymnasium was inaugurated by Ravi Shankar, the High Commissioner of India to Uganda, and then handed over to the Chief of the Uganda People's Defence Forces, Gen. David Muhoozi.

Muhoozi, while accepting the same, hailed it as a "one of kind asset for the entire UPDF".

The General also thanked the Indian contingent for its contribution towards the UPDF.

I was thinking about this only a few days back. One of the few reasons BriSHITS still hold sway in the Arab world is that a significant chunk of the senior officer corps has studied in Sandhurst.

India had and still has a chance to pull off the same in Africa. In 10-15 years time, if Afghanistan is still in one piece, most of its officer corps has had training in India, including the nephew of Ahmad Shah Massoud, a rising star in Afghan politics.

I hope that Afghan forces do not end up a victim to nepotism like the Arabs. I hope they become a strong military, one that can not only ably defend their own territory, but exert military pressure on Pakistan as well. Military ties between India and Afghanistan would definitely bring us closer together, but I hope we see more future Afghanistani leaders educated in India like Karzai. That will be a better and more stable way to cultivate ties with Afghanistan.

@Adioz Afghan forces are in far worse shape than Arabs. If nepotism can change that then I am all for it.

In a country which is war torn with few or no functioning state institutions to fall back on, men with largest armies will decide the future. This is where the Indian military ties will come into play.

Karzai studied in Shimla, both Abdullah and Ghani have good relations with India which is good and beneficial to both countries. Unfortunately, all three of them have very little REAL power when more than 45% of Afghanistan is under Taliban's control.

Again, men with armies will control Afghanistan's future and it'll benefits us deeply if those armies were trained by us.

The Indian Army has decided to establish a new division-level operational formation along the 344-kilometer Line of Actual Control (LAC) that separates India and China in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Plans for the new operational formation along the Indo-Sino LAC have not yet been made public, but sources confirmed the development to India Today.

The decision to set up a new operation command, which implicitly means that more Indian troops will be posted in the area, was taken after internal Army assessments showed that the Himachal-Uttarakhand sector of the Indo-Sino border is the most vulnerable and could be the next area to witness a confrontation between the two nuclear-powered nations' armies.

Hmm...Seems situation already worsen in Barahoti and Nelang valley....Intrusion in these area contrary to Ladakh and Arunachal was never in media light due to "whatever" reason...but these area actually give cover to the very vulnerable inner passes of himalaya and borders are't well defines too...I wonder why Chinese let these area slip in Nehru days ...

INDIA, RUSSIA TO TAKE PART IN MASSIVE TRI-SERVICE DRILL
New Delhi: In a strong political signal that India-Russia bilateral ties are as robust as ever, Russia will embark upon its first ever tri-services military exercise with any foreign country where its Army, Navy and Air Force will undertake joint operations and exchange notes with 910 of their Indian counterparts, in the 11-day long Exercise INDRA in three locations in and around the Ussiriysk district in Russia’s Vladivostok.

The exercise, replete with strategic significance, is the ninth edition of the series, and will begin from Thursday. It would witness participation by the biggest ever Indian military contingent to be sent to a foreign country for an exercise comprising 350 soldiers, 80 air warriors and 480 sea warriors.
The Indian Army contingent is being led by a major-general rank officer, the Indian Air Force (IAF) by an air commodore while a rear admiral will lead the Navy team.

While the Army and IAF contingents will fly to Russia in two Russian-origin IL-76 aircraft on Tuesday morning, the Navy has already set sail in two ships INS Satpura, a stealth frigate, and INS Kadmat, an anti-submarine warfare corvette with two Chetak helicopters on board.

With a substantial part of the IAF’s military assets being of Russian origin, the IAF is not sending any of its military assets as the men are familiar with the Russian fighters, helicopters and other equipment.

The mega exercise, aiming at achieving coordination between the forces of the two countries in a tri- services integrated theatre command scenario and thereby enhance interoperability and ability to undertake joint operations, is a huge upgrade of the earlier editions of Exercise INDRA where only the armies of the two countries was involved.

The exercise will involve live firing drills and air defence while anti-submarine operations with anti-terror, amphibious landings, counter-piracy, combating drug smuggling are to be the other focus areas of the joint exercise. Special Forces and the Navy’s elite MARCOS commandos are part of the teams.

Indo-Russia bilateral ties have traditionally been very close and Russia has been a long-standing defence partner of India.
The tri-services exercise is being seen as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Russia visit in June when both countries had decided to “upgrade and intensify” defence cooperation through joint manufacture, co-production and co-development of key military hardware and equipment.

INDRA 2017 is in pursuance of the fact that joint military training in the international arena is considered to be one of the most effective confidence-building measures between countries besides being an operational necessity.

There is a reason Patka offer limited protection, Its mainly due to trade-off between protection and weight, There are helmets which offer protection against 7.62x39mm but are nearly 2-2.5kgs heavy ..

SM group was working on a helmet which use boron carbide and promised to be lighter but never worked in real conditions, This one though was 1.5kgs and protected from only 9x19mm rounds, Inferior to what MKU was offering with its lighter bolt-less helmets.

All these cool looking helmets are vulnerable to 7.62x39mm at any ranges ..

One very basic reason why most of personals I've seen in COIN does make use of Patka. Moreover Patka is great deal more comfortable in most of Indian weather as per one SM.
