Thank you sir, not interested in bullets, but very interested in the other bike deer. Any info is welcome.
Deer is the code word used for the bikers in army, They are used for delivering message in battlefield, 'Hence send the deer'

Though the term is very popular not a secret code..

Ok Got it. So any idea what make the bikes in the first pic are? Dont tell me they run bullet engines. :shocked:

No.

That are code for radio tansmission.

Tiger = head of the formation/ unit/sun unit

Lamb = second in command

Lion = G Staff head

Panther = Q Staff head

Rabbit = Logistic Head

Sparrow = Signal Head

Robin = Provost

and so on.

If you remember the famous Armoured Corps General called Rajinder Singh Sparrow.

Sparrow is not his surname.

He was called so because he used to be the Signal Officer of his unit.

His surname was Shergill.

Many a time, one comes across a family members of which, for generations, continue to serve Armed Forces. However, one rarely encounters a family that produced officers who had an opportunity of commanding the same regiment. One such family is 'Shergills' which produced three officers that held the reigns of 7th Light Cavalry as colonels of this regiment.

Late Maj Gen Rajinder Singh "Sparrow", received his commission in February 1938 into the 7th Light Cavalry. At the Academy, he earned blues in hockey and cricket. He was Commandant of his regiment during the Jammu & Kashmir war of 1947-48 where he was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra. He was awarded a Bar to Maha Vir Chakra during the Indo-Pak war of 1965 as GOC, 1 Armoured Division. He was Colonel of 7th Light Cavalry from 1959 to 1969. He retired from service in September 1966 and later joined politics and became member of the Parliament. He passed away in April 1994.

His son, MS Shergill, was graduated in June 1962 from IMA and commissioned in the 7th Light Cavalry in the same year. At the Academy, he was awarded blues in hockey and polo and was also captain of the teams. He was awarded a Vir Chakra during the Indo-Pak war of 1971 as a Squadron Commander in the Shakargarh Sector. He was Commandant of the 7th Light Cavalry from 1981to 1984 and later Colonel of this Regiment. Lt Gen MS Shergill retired on July 31, 2001 and held the appointment of DG, Mechanised Forces at Army HQs before hanging his spurs.

His younger brother, Lt Gen TS Shergill was commissioned in Deccan Horse in February 1964. He was awarded Mention in Despatches during the Indo-Pak war of 1965 as a young troop leader in the Khem Karan sector. He commanded the regiment from 1981 to 1984. After commanding a corps in the Eastern Sector, he recently took over as Commandant, Indian Military Academy.

The word 'Desert' would not encompass all types of desert surface.





Both are images of the Thar Desert.

The surface is different.

There are two types of surface basically - the hard and the soft.

In the soft sands even 4 x 4 vehicles get stuck.

That is why if one has noticed carefully, some trucks have winches in front on top of the bumper to pull out vehicles that are stuck. Most of these vehicles are with the Artillery.




The basic cargo version is also used as an artillery tractor for calibers up to 152 mm. Most versions carry a self-recovery winch and add-on extras include snow ploughs and a dozer blade for clearing obstacles. One special engineer version carries a large crane and a dozer blade. A tyre pressure regulation system may be fitted. The Tatra T815 has been exported and the 6x6 version is license-produced in India; the 8x8 version is used by the Indian Army.

Motor Cycles are not used in the deserts since they cannot move as is expected.

MC are used as Despatch Riders. There are other subsidiary use also such as sheparding convoys etc.
Very well explained Ray Sir. If I may add, many such trucks have huge balloon tires and many axles, to distribute the load. If weight (force = mass x gravity acc.) is same, increasing area of contact reduces ground pressure.

For example, this beast can tackle the Siberian slush and powder snow pretty well, despite carrying a behemoth.

GOI ne sabko mamu banadiya by announcing 40 billion$$ budget and failed to provide decent bikes, jeeps and planes trainers to our forces

Balls ! in Ladakh it would not even give 10. In sikkim it would give five and it would have no utility in Jaisalmer. Let us have a trail.... Hath kangan to Arasi kya (I hope one understand the meaning!)

well, thank you. Even roads and air quality differs .... and to tell you frankly motor bikes have no uses except in urban and developed environment or for special operation
