Gun Carriage Factory (GCF) Jabalpur will soon award production of towed artillery gun system ‘ATHOS 155 mm/52 calibre’ under the transfer of technology (ToT) agreement with Israel. The Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) has obtained order from Ministry of Defence for production of 1,180 Autonomous Towed Howitzer Ordnance System (ATHOS). Gun Carriage Factory, Joint General Manager and Spokesman Sanjay Shrivastava, while talking to ‘The Hitavada ‘, informed that the indigenous production of Autonomous Towed Howitzer Ordnance System (ATHOS) may be awarded to the GCF but any official confirmation is yet to be received in this regard. The factory has already proved its mettle with indigenous production of Dhanush 155 mm/45 calibre and Sharang 155 mm/45 calibre gun systems and efficient to develop and produce new guns. Sources in the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) informed that with an aim to strengthen the artillery power of the armed forces, Ministry of Defence will procure 1,580 ATHOS guns from Israel. The country will received 400 ready to use gun systems and rest 1,580 will be indigenously produced through SKD and CKD under ToT with Israel. Gun Carriage Factory in collaboration with other sister factories will indigenously produce ATHOS. Along with improving the artillery strength of the Indian Army, ATHOS is economically viable for the defence budget. Indigenous production of imported gun system will make it more economical and introduce new defence technology in the country. Preparations are being carried out on ministry level and the ToT will be soon finalized to start production of another imported gun by Ordnance Factory Board, source added.

( Guy's this The Hitavada ePaper. Hitavada provides latest and breaking news headlines from Nagpur, Jabalpur, Raipur, Bhopal. Is exclusive to these state's only which makes a high probability that OFB jabalpur can break news first with their local correspondent.
Anyways if this news is true then baba kalyani will cry whole night today )

India could have made those guns in home.

Alll the time people were hyped because of these kind of news.
A 155 mm, 39 calibre, all-steel ULH has been mounted on an Ashok Leyland Truck and will be ready to be offered to Indian Army for experimental trials soon said a reliable industrial source close to idrw.org. The idea was first mooted by Army chief, General Bipin Rawat when he had met Baba Kalyani on a visit to Kalyani Group facility where he was shown three ultralight howitzers. Kalyani Group in last Defence Expo 2018 had showcased a Light Truck-mounted Advance Hybrid recoil version of the ULH 155/39 which weighed only 4.5 tonnes but Rawat suggested the development of 6.8 tonnes All Steel ULH mounted on a Medium class Ashok Leyland Stallion 4×4 Truck which was a cheaper alternative without a drop in performance in mountain terrain.

Anyways if this deal happens i have lost my hope for indigenous Equipments.

And I'm pretty sure ability to provide Guns like these will be faster of Kalyani group rather than OFB to take on POK.
We cannot Kill every indigenous program in the name of planning something for POK. :confused1:

ULH order already given to American companies now they are lobbying for more orders.
And dunno further orders for ATAGS will even take place because The Soltam Systems' state-of-the-art Autonomous Towed Howitzer ATHOS 2052 is a long range 155mm 52 cal. Gun, achieving a max. range of 41 km. The ATHOS 2052 utilizes self maneuvering capability and automatic laying mode. Integrated with fully computerized systems, achieving automatic control, accurate navigation and target acquisition, the system is offered with various gun calibers,.
Because both of these guns are of same category.
And fuckin hell man 400 imported guns of this class will coste in billions.
So much for fake hype of MAKE IN INDIA.
FUCK MAKE IN INDIA.

We cannot just keep saying things will happen in future when we are giving away opportunities today. Technically saying we had indigenous product in this category but we went on with imported one.

It is based on the report in a local newspaper but it may be credible similar reports were published in April Last year, they say the order for 1180 ATAGs is their and reserved it but another 1580 is needed of 155/52 of towed category & that be ordered by a tender which started way before ATAGs came in and ATHOS 155 of Elbit in conjection Bharat Forge won against Nextar of France & L&T.It is to be seen whether Army goes through with the tender or not ,400 off the shelf and remaining by ToT by Indian Partner but it is just reports as DAC has not passed it yet and that is just 1st phase of procurement procedure

There was this tender competition between French Nexter and Israel Athos for 1580 towed artillery guns, 400 of which would have come directly from the winning vendor. Then DRDO was asked to develop a homemade one in collaboration with pvt sector and ATAGS is the result of the same. Now ATAGS is supposed to be the chosen towed gun, irrespective of number of guns. There is no space for any firaangi gun in towed section dear...And then this news comes out of blue.

Someone posted this. Is it true?

Elbit beats Nexter in epic battle to win Indian 155 mm, 52 calibre towed gun competition

The Indian Army's Field Artillery Rationalisation Programme (FARP) - probably the world's largest - was approved in 1999 to equip 169 artillery regiments with over 3,000 155 mm guns by 2027. One artillery regiment is usually equipped with 18 guns. Cost estimates are in the $8 to 10 Billion bracket. The programme, involving the acquisition of 1,580 towed, 400 self-propelled, 814 mounted and 145 ultra light howitzers, will take decades for fruition. The order for 114 Dhanush guns may also grow to 400.
</>

if today's news is true then ^^ this might have happening ....
The program started in 1999 and after that we have 'lost a decade' of congi raj.

Total order 1550 of ethos guns.
Then we will place further order for Dhanush gun 127 inducted more will come.
135 M-77 already inducted. All of this will make Us close to 3000 artillery gun program of india. Sharang guns are also going to get updated This means we can produce only 300-400 more ATAGS guns.

ATAGS is a prestige project. It will receive orders for at least 300+ units.

ATAGS also has 6 round burst fire mode in 30 seconds using magazine and 5 round quick fire in 62 seconds. Maximum range is 45 km.

Also Bharat Forge is Indian partner with Elbit for ATHOS 2052.

By the looks of above report it looks like OFB jabalpur is going to take a lead role in the program.

Such a disappointment. ATAGS should have received thousands of orders. Elbit is stealing orders of ATAGS. ( nothing new).

It is a magnificent Gun created in india. With a better range. Compared to other guns in it's segment.
But who cares about all of this when in the end we will give billions to foreign ka maal suppliers.

OFB Jabalpur will receive minimal work which they will subcontract to Bharat Forge. Rest is Elbit +BF.

ATAGS will receive more orders. This is because our artillery needs a deep overhaul.

More hafta for more tech / JV.
