India didn't buy the K10. We bought 10 ready-to-go K9 + 100 to be made in L&T


Only 2 countries are using K10, namely S.Korea (170 units) and Norway (6 units).

India will most likely use non-armored, thin skinned vehicles from. Ashok Leyland recently got a big order from Israel's Elbit as an artillery mounting platform (and possibly ammo carrying). Ashok Leyland has only mentioned one line "for mounting artillery and other systems". Probably India will use something like that too or possibly use the Bhim chassis. It would not make sense for us to import even simple things like ammo carrying vehicles. Makes sense to buy local.

It’s not just an ammo-carrier but also an ammo-loader (loads automatically in field)

It is not bofors but dhanush. The catch is -'desi bofors'. Someone had supplied chinese parts branding them as Germany made. So, suspicion fell on this man. It isnot related to congress or politics. Either he committed suicide fearing that he will be caught or someone in his company killed him to ensure they don't get caught

One of these came after army chief, General Bipin Rawat, on a visit to Kalyani Group, wondered whether it would be feasible to mount the all-steel ULH on a truck, for mobility in mountainous terrain.

Kalyani says he has met Rawat’s request by integrating a 6.8-tonne, all-steel ULH onto a 7.5-tonne Ashok Leyland carrier. By March, it will be offered to the army and could go into testing.

Kalyani Group is also pitching in the ULH segment, having developed an all-titanium ULH that, at 4.8 tonnes, is only marginally heavier than the 4.5-tonne M777. Kalyani claims this gun would become lighter as development proceeds.

OFB has been quick in series production of first batch after first order just in 20 days ,it augurs well for dhanush programme ,dhanush guns should be churning out at fast rate so pakistani which were getting a thrashing from the older Bofors will be crying their hearts out with longer range and very accurate dhanush howitzers

Baba Kalyani provided some guns. This should be the best time to test them at LOC. I hope he can provide ammunition as well equally fast.

#India's GCF Jabalpur factory starts bulk production of India’s indigenous 155mm long-range artillery gun Dhanush.

The Indian Army has a requirement for a total of 414 guns and already placed an order for production of 114 guns over the next three years. GCF has already handed over six guns and six are ready for shipping. Efforts are being made to provide 18 guns during the first year.

Very informative discussion. Isn't the order of 114 Dhanush Guns too less considering 4000 KM border with Pakistan & 7000 KM border with China? As the gentleman rightly said once initial development is done by OFB, mass production should be shifted to private sector.

Any information regarding ATAG Orders and production/Delivery will also be good as it will boost the morale.

Gentleman said about ammunition being weak spot. Are we mass manufacturing ammunition indigenously?

Indian army's field rationalization plan only calls for 52 caliber guns - that's why ATAGS was launched by DRDO. OFB went off to produce 45 caliber gun (Dhanush) as an off-shoot of 39 caliber Bofors design.

What is the status of ATAG Orders & how many are in service with armed forces? Is Kalyani also making its ammunition?

If we are dependent on OFB for ammunition, I am afraid we are going to import it as well during a major conflict.

I think there's a tentative order for 150 in place.....not sure about the delivery schedule.

Also on the ammo front, I am not sure what type of ammo is not being made in India. In one of the interviews Baba Kalyani mentioned that during Kargil war they were asked to produce artillery shells on a 'war footing'!!!!

Something in hand is better than future procurement in the time of conflict. If ATAGs cannot be produced now, let's concentrate on Dhanush production for now.

It is. This is a preliminary order just like that of 145 M777 (300 more possible) or 100 K9 (atleast 200 more in pipeline). Similarly Dhanush, Sharang & ATAGS among themselves would make-up about 2000 guns atleast.

Your logic is like Tejas Mk1 will be produced forever even after Mk2 is production ready
Why would a 45 caliber gun (that's not part of Army's field rationalization plan at all) be produced once 52 caliber ATAGS is production ready?

All those number on K9 etc are pulled from your posterior! 100 is the number for tracked-howitzers (based on the number of strike corps!). You cannot just raise additional strike corps just to fit more tracked-howitzers!
