Interessting article on the exercise, but also this part:

The government is f.... IAF over and over!
Cancelled and delayed tenders, political procurements, low budgets and now this.
And this is during the BJP's tenure which is supposed to have a muscular approach! Imagine what it would be like if a so called Federal Front or the Cong comes to power at the center! The defence forces will then be royally screwed.

Actually, it shows that the perception of the so called lost decade under UPA MoDs/DMs wasn't lost at all. IAF and IN in particular today are in a good shape because of critical procurements of the UPA like PC7, C130, C17, Mi 171, P8I, Dhruvs in different varients...

So although they had their share of problems and failures, for defence they actually showed far better performance than what we have seen in the last 4+ years.

Just as the performance of AK Antony in hindsight was better than what Jaitley, Parrikar, Jaitley and Sitharaman have shown so far. Imo that itself shows the biggest problem of NDA in defence, the lack of a proper DM!

Probably this is why news came this week about paki airforce base near the border...

================
India building new frontline airbase near border with Pakistan

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has begun constructing a ‘forward’ airbase in the western Indian state of Gujarat to counter a similar facility located across the border in Pakistan’s Sindh Province.

Official sources told Jane’s that India’s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “quietly” approved the construction of the base at Deesa in March for an estimated INR40 billion (USD581 million).

The move followed the inauguration in December 2017 of the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF’s) main operating base (MOB) at Bholari, which is located some 420 km northwest of Deesa and about 145 km northeast of the Pakistani port city of Karachi.

Constructing a ‘forward’ airbase in Deesa, that is old news anyway.
DFI members already talked about it few years back.

The reason for this FOB was to counter Pakistani build up near the national highway supported by their PAF at Bholari. The fact was, there was news that Pakis got some intelligence report that India had plans to penetrate into south of Sindh and cut off Karachi from rest of the Pak mainland via national Highway at North of Karachi.
So to thwart back the cold start doctrine Bholari was constructed, thus providing tactical and strategic advantage to Pakistanis against India. So India planned this new base.

Hai friends I m new here and I didn't find any other relevant thread to post this , so I m posting here .

An Indian Pvt aerospace firm developing India's own mini Falcon 9 , reusable rockets named Garuda.

Garuda is an affordable launch vehicle under development at Bellatrix Aerospace. It falls in the medium lift category. It's a two stage rocket designed for complete re-use. It will feature a revolution in the field of rocket engineering by incorporating several innovations such as a next generation propulsion system and ingenious stage recovery mechanisms. Garuda will employ carbon composites in more than 80% of its construction.

PAYLOAD

1010kg to 700km Sun Synchronous Orbit
Designed to take multiple satellites to their dedicated orbits
Simple to integrate the payload
Payload Fairing Height 4m
Payload Fairing Diameter 3m

FIRST STAGE

Garuda, for the first time, will feature a unique thermodynamic cycle for its first stage engine. This engine called Kalam, will feature combustion tap-off cycle, i.e. it uses a pump-fed engine design with a tap-off cycle to take small amount of combustion gases from main combustion chamber to power the engine turbopumps. This produces high impulse and is much simpler than pre-burning staged combustion because of its single combustion chamber and graceful shut down mode. This engine is designed to generate 800kN thrust in vacuum.

SECOND STAGE

The second stage of Garuda will use a single Aeon engine. This stage is designed for multiple restart capability. The Aeon engine will feature turbo-pumps driven by Brushless DC motors powered by advanced batteries. This will eliminate the need for complex turbo-machinery and highly complex plumbing. This engine is designed to generate 41kN thrust in vacuum

FUEL

Both the stages of Garuda will use Liquid Methane and Liquid Oxygen as its propellants. These are clean burning fuels. Clean burning do not produce carbon compounds (coking), making it easier for reuse. This propellant combination also provides high specific impulse. Many rocket engines employ helium pressurization system is extremely complex and carries certain risk.

CAPABILITIES

Garuda is designed to launch payloads in sun synchronous orbits and inclined orbits. The vehicle is capable of launching remote sensing satellites into polar sun synchronous orbits and small communication satellites to GTO. It is designed to be capable of launching multiple satellites in the same launch mission and placing satellites in equatorial, inclined as well as polar orbits.

AVIONICS

The avionics are responsible for control and monitoring of the engines, launch sequencing, trajectory planning, guidance, navigation and control from the beginning of the countdown all the way to orbit. To shrink our development time and costs, we use distributed computing architecture with a focus on common hardware and modularity across each rocket stage and function.

IAF uses a customised Operating System called Vayusenix to secure the computers of IAF connected on the Internet from persistent cyber attacks. Major highlights of the new updated Vayusenix Version 3.0 are:

(a) More user friendly with look and feel of windows.

(b) All users are able to customise their desktop.

(c) Browser is customised to block malicious and inappropriate websites.

Can't calculate value of precious life lost in flying coffin, but training one pilots itself takes millions of rupees. They are ready to scarifice young lives in flying coffin but are hell bend on creating hurdles in LCA induction.

Why we r risking young pilots lives by flying these soviet era relic jets.:frusty::frusty:.

The fighter pilot of the MiG 21 Indian aircraft that crashed in Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district has died. The aircraft had taken off from Punjab's Pathankot earlier today

THEY WONT!!! THEY WILL FLY THIS SCRAP RATHER THAN BRAND NEW TEJAS AND FLY IT WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENT OR AT LEAST FOR TRAINING AND RECONNAISSANCE PURPOSE EVEN WITHOUT FOC AT LEAST.

Sad but there is no alternative as long as LCA remains not capable enough and in too limited numbers. The Migs are still the workhorse in numbers next to the MKI, when it comes to air defence and at the lower end to train pilots for air combats.

Pilot had to paid with life for flying this flying coffin. But IAF babus wont give two hoots about it, since they don't get kickbacks in indigenous platforms like LCA, with unpackable record of zero crash.
