India to export sonar to Myanmar

Giving a fillip to the domestic defence industry, India will soon start exporting DRDO-developed sonar systems to Myanmar.

"India will export the recently developed sonar systems to Myanmar and other friendly countries. We should work for a defence industry that exports," said DRDO chief Avinash Chander on Wednesday here.

The ship-borne sonar systems were developed in the DRDO's Kochi-based Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory.

The DRDO director general said the defence industry is fast moving towards indigenisation. He said the DRDO would get the final operational clearance for supplying Light Combat Aircraft to the Indian Air Force by 2014. The Arjun tank is currently undergoing user trials. "About 79 upgrades were suggested, but not major ones. They have been carried out," he said.

Asked about Air-independent Propulsion (AIP)developed by the DRDO for submarines, Avinash said the system had been cleared by the Navy. "The AIP will be inducted onto the last two of the Scorpene submarines," he said.

On the recently testfired Agni-V missile, Avinash said it would be inducted within two years. "About 4-5 more trials need to carried out before the induction," he said. The DRDO chief said weapon trials on the nuclear submarine INS Arihant were going on as per schedule. He also emphasised on the need for developing challenging technologies to achieve deep-sea security capabilities.

give them stripped down versions or give inferior versions of sonar in indian inventory.

we cant prevent chinese laying their hands on our equipment.this is the same reason akash export to malaysia has been downturned as its weaknesses/technology may finally reach pakistan

India had already provided Myanmar Navy and Bangladesh navy sonar for evaluation purposes. So, is this news in continuation to that?
Has the Myanmar navy selected Indian sonar after evaluation of the trial sonar?
