Balasore: India on Friday successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Agni-I ballistic missile, with a strike range of 700 km, as part of the Army's user trial from a test range at Wheeler Island off Odisha coast. The surface-to-surface, single-stage missile, powered by solid propellants, was test-fired from a mobile launcher at about 1010 hrs from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range at Wheeler Island, about 100 km from here, defence sources said. "The trial of the sophisticated missile with a strike range of 700 km was successful," a defence scientist said. Describing the launch as a routine user’s trial by the strategic force command of Indian Army, he said the main objective was to train the user team to launch the missile. "It was a practice-drill. The user-team picked a missile at random from the production lot and fired it with logistic support provided by Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) at ITR," he said. Agni-I missile has a specialised navigation system which ensures it reaches the target with a high degree of accuracy and precision, he said. The trajectory of the missile, which has an operational strike range of 700 km, was tracked by sophisticated radars and electro-optic telemetry stations located along the sea coast and ships positioned near the impact point in the downrange area. Weighing 12 tonnes, the 15-metre-long Agni-I, which can carry payloads up to 1000 kg, has already been inducted into the Indian Army. PTI India tests N-capable Agni-I missile
How many A-1s do you think we have in our arsenal? Also what is the exact shelf-life of these missiles? How long can we store them without the propellant decaying?
since it is Pakistani specific, i would say about 25-35 A1, plus SFC would use long range Prithvi missile with nukes. It is quite strange that GOI has earlier said that Prithvi wont be used with nukes, as it would create confusion with Pakistan that we are attacking with nukes therefore they will counter nuke missile strike into India. But last years SFC tests of Prithvi missile, seems they have not let go Prithvi missile for nuke strike.
India's Nuke Command Exercises Agni-1 Agni 1, India’s 700-km range nuclear-capable ballistic missile was successfully launched today by India's Strategic Forces Command at 1006 hrs from the Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha as part of a training exercise. According to the DRDO, "It was a textbook launch meeting all mission objectives and the missile reached the target point in the Bay of Bengal following the prescribed trajectory. The missile was launched from Road Mobile Launcher System and was tracked by radar and telemetry stations located along the coastline. Two naval ships located near the target point tracked the missile in the terminal phase of the flight. Indigenously developed by DRDO the missile is already in the arsenal of Indian armed forces and was launched by the Strategic Forces Command as part of training exercise to ensure preparedness. right but how many are deployed till now i hope you know ground reality we need thing on ground not on papers
Any info on shelf life? Anyone in chemistry can speculate on the life of propellant chemical? Also every missile is painted like an R-day display piece?!!!!
But I like the Brahmos's trajectory just after launch. It shoots 2 objects (don't know what they are called) for their exact trajectory. A text book example for law of momentum conservation.
this was made in 18 months after kargil war, when need was felt to have missile with 700 km range with single stage, so that it can be fired from the central India.
