Rock Salt or Himalayan Rock Salt or Sendha Namak or Kala Namak as it is called in India is produced from mines in sub Himalayan Salt Ranges in Punjab Province of Pakistan. It is called "Sendha" because it used to be imported from Sindh which had major trade routes to India in the past because of major ports on Makran coast (karachi) and trade with Arabs from there.

Otherwise there is no Sindh in that "sendha namak".

Now there is no import of any Rock Salt from Pakistan as Indian salt mines in Kangra (Himachal Pradesh) produce enough to meet domestic demands. Kala namak is also artificially processed in large quantities in Hisar (haryana) who use Sumbal Salt from Rajasthan.

Strategic Importance to India ? Depends ? But not as important as POK.

We can get to central Asia through Iran. Once you get to Iran, you get to central Asia, West Asia, Egypt, Russia, and Europe.

Rail line through high Himalaya range is not viable.
Road traffic is inefficient.

Right now industry in North India has a big problem of distance from ports. Actually exports can be done efficiently using trains through Rajasthan, Sindh, Baluchistan, Iran and further to central Asia, West Asia, Russia etc.

Kashmir will always be net negative for India. Kashmir is only a buffer, a no man's land so to speak. It has little economic value.

It's not about just people. It's the operational constraints. Combat ratio between India and Pak is 1.5 :1. Considering the mountainous terrain, we would need a ratio of a minimum 6:1 to capture vital areas/vital grounds. In addition we need a third of the entire force for holding on to the positions captured. For logistics support along the long and tennous lines of communications additional forces will be needed for security.

In short, we don't have the numerical superiority to conduct an operation to capture GB and hold on to it indefinitely.
