Some cumbersome thoughts you have :)

In serious: the 1-st serial produced S-500 regiment for Russian VKS is planned to reach IOC in the middle of 2020.

Yet it is true... That's why I called it S-450, only a few system and long range missiles from S-500 that have been validated are being integrated to make it more modern and formidable than Chinese S-400s......

India to sign ₹39,000 crore deal for S-400 Triumf deal with Russia in October, reports

Well...
Bearing in mind that IAF will sign it in October, I'm tended to think IAF has waited for 9M96, 9M96D (medium, 75 and 150km respectively) and 9M100 (short, up to 25km) SAMs to get production status...

Is India going to buy S-350U Vityaz MR SAM?

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. A group of air defense systems S-400 Triumf and artillery and missile systems Pantsir-S1 of the Central Military District have for the first time been used as an integral system to repel a massive missile attack of a hypothetical enemy at a tactical exercise at the Ashuluk test site, in the Astrakhan Region, the acting chief of the 14th Air Force and Air Defense Army’s air defense department, Colonel Gennady Shlag said on Friday.

“During the exercise the S-400 air defense systems were for the first time pooled into one system with the near-range system Pantsir-S1. Guided by one commander, they entered duty and managed to repel two massive missile attacks," he said.

S-400 crews destroyed targets imitating high-speed ballistic missiles, while Pantsir-S1 simultaneously destroyed low altitude small targets, such as cruise missiles and drones of a hypothetical enemy.

"This tandem creates a multi-tier system of protection under one commander," Shlag said.

The district’s press-service said the experiment was successful.

"All targets were identified on time, tracked and destroyed. Manufacturers’ delegates were

Thala... i had saved this pic a long time ago. Looks like a screen grab from one of the early video cameras....

View attachment 16702

I'll try to find the URL and edit this post

Presumably the S300 being transported. Undated and unverified screen grab. I do think we already operate the s300... I'll let the readers draw their own conclusion.
Nope it's 4K51 Rubezh Navy's coastal ASM

This Infographic Provides Lots of Details about Russia’s S-400 Advanced Air Defense Systems allegedly deployed to Syria

Nov 13 2015 - 41 Comments

By David Cenciotti
S-400 Triumph explained.
Some photographs published by Russia’s Ministry of Defense seem to suggest Moscow has just deployed at least one S-400 missile battery to Latakia, to protect the Russian air contingent deployed there.

Although the reports that the next-generation anti-aircraft weapon system was deployed to Syria were denied by the Russian MoD, whether the Russians have really deployed the system to protect their assets at Latakia or not is still subject to debate.

The Russian MoD image shows what looks like a 96L6 radar. However, according to Air Power Australia’s Dr Carlo Kopp“The 96L6 is the standard battery acquisition radar in the S-400 / SA-21 system, and is available as a retrofit for the S-300PM/PMU/PMU1 and S-300PMU2 Favorit / SA-20 Gargoyle as a substitute for the legacy acquisition radars.”

Considered that the presence of the S-400 has been officially denied, provided the one depicted in the photos is really a 96L6 radar, it may be deployed to support something else.

But let’s have a look at an interesting infographic that provides some details about the S-400.

Designated SA-21 “Growler” by NATO, the S-400 is believed to be able to engage all types of aerial targets including aircraft (someone says even VLO – Very Low Observable ones), drones and ballistic and cruise missiles within the range of 250 miles at an altitude of nearly 19 miles. Equipped with 3 different types of missiles and an acquisition radar capable of tracking up to 300 targets within the range of over 370 miles, the Triumph (or Triumf) is a system made of 8 launchers and a control station.

Supported by effective EW (Electronic Warfare) capabilities, the S-400 fires missiles against aerial targets flying at as much as 17,000 km/h: at least on paper, all non-stealth planes (including 4+ Generation planes) will hardly be able to dodge them.

This means that all but U.S. F-22s and B-2s would be threatened by such an advanced air defense system over Syria (and in nearby airspaces).

That said, you can clearly understand why U.S., Israel and NATO are worried that the S-400 (or even S-300) can make their way to Syria (and Iran).

Why the hell IAF will buy less range missiles for $7 billion?
I thought our guys are buying beyond 200 and 400km range missiles?

S-400 and Terminator:
WATCH Russian Air Defense Forces in All Their Glory

The Russian Ministry of Defense published a video on its official YouTube channel depicting all the might of its air defense forces, marking the 104th anniversary since its establishment. The video shows modern Russian air defense systems such as the S-300 (NATO designation SA-10 Grumble), S-400 "Triumf" (SA-21 Growler) and Pantsir-S1 (SA-22 Greyhound), as well as its service members in action, performing launch drills.

Radio-technical troops shown in the video are equipped with hardware such as the "Nebo-M," "Podlet-K1," which can detect aircraft 600 km away and at an altitude of 100 km. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, every day some 2,000 personnel monitor the country's airspace, detecting and following the movement of up to 1,000 aircraft per day. They undergo regular training with simulated targets, imitating the use of the foremost techniques and armaments in need of being detected and intercepted.

AFAIK, the primary goal for IAF in S-400 deal are multi-band radars, network centric communication systems and 40N6E missiles.
Nothing changes.
But the deal can (or cannot) contain smaller range missiles as well.

Deal between India and Russia for S-400 is likely this Year.

Russia said today that it expects to sign a mega deal with India this year on the sale of S-400 surface-to-air missiles, the Interfax news agency reported. It cited Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation as saying that all the technical aspects of the contract have been agreed upon and a price just needed to be decided.

The deal is expected to be worth over $5.5 billion (more than 36,000 crore rupees). The two countries had also agreed to collaborate in making four state of art frigates besides setting up a joint production facility for making Kamov helicopters.

The deals were announced following talks held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit held in Goa. The S-400 Triumf long-range air defence missile system has the capability to destroy incoming hostile aircraft, missiles and even drones at ranges of up to 400 km. The S-400 missile system can fire three types of missiles and simultaneously engage 36 targets, thereby creating a layered defence.

S400 deal needs to be called off once and for all

1. It is atrociously expensive and will not allow for universal coverage
2. Brings ZERO benefits to Indian industry or domestic R&D
3. India’s adversories already operate it (China) and are supposedly interested in it (Pakistan) which means they know the signatures, performance and will be able to model deployment patterns
4. India will never get the full spec version but a watered down export version
5. There are some question marks about It’s real world performance in Syria

DRDO XRSAM is the way to go, even if India has to wait 5-6 years for it, it will address all of the above. Frankly the fact China already operates it should be enough to stop this procurement but such is the love for foreign maal in the strategic community and media that this fact is overlooked.

We know the only reason it is being entertained is because India still wants influence in Moscow.

Have no doubts about DRDO’s ability to deliver. All the components for XRSAM are being developed nicely.

As I said, it may take 5-6 years but it will come.

The primary intention of getting S400 is to get the technology of the 250km and 400km missile and the technology for better integration of radars with SAM batteries. It is not simply an import that does not bring any technology or benefits to Indian industry.

Is China the great adversary of India? Is there any realistic threat from China or is the threat from some other higher? Pakistan is interested in everything. That won't mean they will get everything.

India is dealing for S400 whereas Russia already is making S500. S400 itself is the watered down version. Also, the primary intention is to get ToT for the above mentioned technology

Syrian performance is nil as not even one single missile was fired by any of the Russian advanced SAMs, be it S300 or S400. Only S200 and SA6 supplied to syria fired missiles and of that one Israeli F35 plane has been downed!

Indian XRSAM will be completed but is best if it is completed with state of the art technology made by combining Indian and Russian technology.
