while i do apppreciate some of what you have written, you have change the subject matter ,,,,let's get to the hub of the issue which i was initially discussing with member huxiarox just a few posts above this

it was and is this :- that if you are real friends as nations - then do as we have done to smaller countries in our neighbourhood - ...... we GAVE 40% of kashmir to pak even though we pushed them right to the frontier we withdrew and GAVE 40% , we GAVE bangladesh some territory they wanted ( just recently done by PM MM Singh Of india )
the principle being the larger country can be MAGNANIMOUS ENOUGH TO SHARE to the smaller

china being THREE TIMES the size of india WILL NOT CONSIDER DOING THE SAME regarding aksai area
not only that , they still make weekly TRANSGRESSIONS on most of the border
that is what you call a friend ? huh with friends like that who needs enemies !

The aggressive chinese approach towards india by arming PAK with nuclear tech,ballistic missile tech is a very short sighted old fashioned policy,forever estranging india.

It doesnot contribute to china's security either as pakistani state machinery condones all splinter muslim terrorists group including the ones in XINXIANG chinese muslim majority province bordering pakistan.

If the chinese estimate that pakistani state machinery will be forever capable of controlling these dangerous elements ,as it controls it's own populace then these estimates are hugely ambitious.

The result will be indian alignment with US,japan,europe,vietnam,australia in containing china and restive muslim populations in it's bordering districts with pakistan.

A sagacious realignment of it's hostile policy towards india would be beneficial in long term by not strenghtening the above alliance.

The chinese slogan that india's friendship with US is aimed against it must be compared with it's alignment with capitalist US against communist USSR.People to people ties with india and US are always strong as they are both open free market capitalist democracies with no confrontation between them.

Even during cold war days when india was aligned with USSR people to people level contact between india and US was strong with millions of indian engineers in US.Now with the sterling diplomatic breakthrough achieved by BUSH administration by sealing the nuclear deal will only make indo-us ties grow many fold.

WHETHER IT BE SUPREME COURTS, FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS ,FREE MARKET ECONOMY, FREE SPEECH, CIVIL LIBERTIES TO ALL CITIZENS.....INDIAN AND AMERICAN SYSTEMS MIRROR EACH OTHER.

Infact india gave voting rights to women much ahead of US.

SO belittling this multi faceted relationship as "BEFRIENDING THE FAR AND ATTACKING THE NEAR" won't do any good.

With recent opening of indian retail sector to FDI,this relationship is going to explode further.Naturally best quality weapons will be also sourced by India from the US.Because we earn billions of dollars in software exports to US open market, we cannot say No We won't buy your top quality arms as it will offend the chinese.


the ugly chinese under hand dealing in trying to stall the nuclear exemptions given to india in NSG as a byproduct of INDO_US nuclear deal is a despicable attempt to stall india's economic progress by forever keeping it off the civilian nuclear energy market.

It was an illegitimate chinese attempt to stand against the recognition of INDIA as responsible global power inalienable to global security calculas by the international community following the lead of the US.

It's jealousy that once INDIA is out of NPT doghouse an important despicable difference between china and India will disappear is slimiest at the worst.Trying to restrain india from the world stage by instituting coffee table club against india's entry into SECURITY COUNCIL is yet another instance of this failed policy.

It was this one episode of trying to undermine india's interests citing the NPT clause ,while consistenly undermining the treaty by transfering nuclear, missile tech to pak that truly exposed the turncoat quality of chinese leadership.

Deng started reform in the 70s.Narashima RAO started reforms in 90s .That's the reason for the present economic gap between china and india.

Like japan ,which was once slated to overtake US, explosive economic growth occurs in the first few decades of economic growth and it stabilizes to normal level of around 4 percent later.China is now in the maturing phase.

India too will go through the inevitable cycle and reach much close to china in later decades.

So any misplaced overconfidence by the chinese won't bring them world superiority.

You can also recognize that India too will have to be a significant pole of asia and it will have friendship and alliances with all free nations of the world.
Settling the border problem amicably as per the PREVIOUS mutually agreed princilple of "SETTLED POPULATIONS WILL NOT BE DISPLACED "
