Back in Early 2000s, fresh after the Parliament attack, and when forces were mobilized to the border, it seems to be an open secret that it was India Inc., (cumulative for businesses and corporations operating in India) that lobbied at New Delhi to tone down its war-conch and try to dissolve and bury the situation. Something similar followed after 26/11, and there's a fat chance that it's India Inc. again keeping Delhi from taking necessary steps to prevent Chinese incursions.
In their viewpoint, a war of any scale will have its toll on the economy in a way that will severely undermine their competitiveness. Just to give you an example, after the recent North Korean artillery strike on the South, a war, or at least a very big skirmish seemed imminent between the two Koreas. The immediate repercussion was a huge market crash in Seoul, which had a domino effect on markets world over.
Do you think at Dalal St's instinct of self-preservation is overriding that of the entire country?
