F-INSAS is for NCW
it is the future man we want to adapt to new technology, in future the war zone is even more dangerous so we need all type of equipment to every one. if CO/NCO/JCO is injured and took back what the company do..? if F-INSAS is there even from New Delhi they order a jawan in J&K region, through NCW.I think the disconnect results when the average soldier is portrayed with these high end tools which he may not have a use for.
Even in the future, better armour and weapons is something that is essential for a soldier, not palmtops. A soldier needs to carry out the orders given by his CO, period. He just needs the proper tools to be able to do that. He certainly does not need to "scan the battlefield".
Field computers and data devices may be necessary for the unit commanders (to get the big picture of the immediate battalefiled or to receive data and instructions from their COs), but displaying that device on a soldier creates this confusion. I don't believe the DRDO gives much thought to presentation.
The official statements, or at least the media reports of those are even worse. The soldier guiding the aircraft is a perfect example.
About calling in air support, in the future even regular troopers (or unit NCOs/ JCOs) might be required to do that. The technology for that is already there, developing an operational doctrine with the IAF (or at least the Army Aviation Wing) is mroe important.
