This missile replaces Prithvi with much short reaction time and much better accuracy. We have nukes of 50KT which weigh less than 180kgs. Pls read this together with our new DRDO Chaimen message that we want to reduce the reaction time to launch counter strike to minutes once WE DETECT ENEMY NUKE LAUNCH. Does this mean anything to all you guys? Counter strike will take off even before enemy lands his nukes on us which means that our Anti ballastic missile defence is nearly in place for major cities and we will not wait for a nuke to strike us to counter strike.
It is high time Pak realised the folly of its nukes as the Chinese will make a sacrificial goat of them to know about Indian Nuke counter strike capability.
how can we know that it's surely a nuke strike, when a particular
missile is launched, there could be other weapons too it the missile other then nuke !!

Can tactical missiles have MIRV capabilities ?
MIRV = Multiple Independently targetable Re-entry Vehicle, while tactical missiles have very less range below 300 kms in general, so it's warhead doesn't need a re-entry into the atmosphere. So I don't think it wil have MIRV capabilities !

Is this an anti-ballistic counter-strike missile or a cruise missile?

Can tactical missiles have MIRV capabilities ?
MIRV as the name suggests, means multiple warheads per missile. Tactical ballistic missiles have payload in the region of 100-500Kg. So theoretically, you should be able to deploy MIRVs on Tactical BMs as long as you find warheads small enough and light enough to mount on the limited space on top of the BM.

But, practically, would someone do it is rather questionable, at best.

It would be unnecessary to hold MIRVs on a tactical missile. Especially if you are talking about conventional warheads, since you could do the required damage by a salvo of the tactical missiles instead. In any case it is not worth it to place a 50 kg conventional warhead on top of a missile.

If you are talking about tactical nuclear weapons, you must understand that tactical nukes are a defensive weapon used as an area denial weapon and a deterrent weapon. Why would you want to launch multiple nuclear strikes when the sole aim of using them would be to stop a force ?

Its not 180 Kg. The fission boosted nukes were in 500 kg range.
The Mk-4 series FBF indian devices cover a yield of upto 25Kt and they are categorised as light warheads which weigh less than 180 kgs.
The Mk-5 series FBF indian devices have a yield from 50-150Kt and they start from 180 kgs and go upto 340 kgs in weight. The Indian TN weapons are also less than 340kgs in weight.
The Mk-6 series FBF indian device is for above 150 kt and goes upto 200Kt yield. They weigh 550 kgs.
Indian Nuke scientists wanted to test TN device of 350-500Kt but weighing 550 kgs but were stopped. These have only been lab tested.
Pending the verification of thermonuclear warhead the high-yield Boosted Fission warhead sets the upper limit of Indian warheads, thus Indian missile range is often quoted for 1,000 Kg payload. The 1000kgs includes 550 kgs for our heaviest nuke device and 450 kgs for the associated heatshield etc.
A missile like pragati and Prahaar will not need heat shield as they do not exit the atmosphere so a 200kgs payload for them is sufficient to deliver Mk-4 & 5 series FBF warheads with upto 50Kt yield. Did it ever occur to you as to why these missiles have 200 kgs payload and not 150 kgs or 250 kgs?

It is a quick reaction conventional missile with low payload. It cannot replace Nuke capable Prithvi which has a much higher payload in its current avatar.

But yes, eventually Prithvi would need to be replaced with a solid fueled missile. Else it would be ironical that 5000+Km A5 can be launched within 5 min but 250Km Prithvi would need maybe an hour or more to launch.
Prahar is the replacement of Prithvi quite like how Shaurya will be for Agni 1

pinaka 2 with 60km in trials.
Indian Ofb signed a deal with Russia in aug 2012 to develop 5 versions of Mbrl with 90km.
There's no development of 120km mbrl by drdo!
I thought collaboration was happening with Israel for pinaka 2 based on the
Israeli Lora?

Prahaar cannot carry a 1000Kg warhead to 350Km or a 500Kg payload to 600Km as of now, like Prithvi does. Prahaar can carry only max 200Kg warhead. So, it can be termed as a complimentary system, but not a replacement.

6 Prahaars can carry 1200 kg war heads and useful as battlefield weapons. The rest will be tackled by Brahmos.

The republic day pic is clearly a mock up. The pic of Pragati looks a finished product.
