India conveys its concerns to US over military sales to Pakistan

New Delhi: New Delhi has conveyed its concerns to the US over sale of missiles and attack helicopters to Pakistan, saying it must take into account Indo-US ties and the impact on India's security before firming up such supplies.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, also said the government keeps a constant watch on all developments that have a bearing on India's national interest and takes necessary steps to safeguard it.

"Most recently, we have noted that the US State Department made a determination approving possible Foreign Military Sales to Pakistan of AH-1Z Viper Attack Helicopters and AGM-114R Hellfire II Missiles and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support for an estimated cost of USD 952 million.

"Government has sensitised the US of our concerns on US military sales to Pakistan. Government has consistently conveyed to the US that it must take into account India-US relations and the impact on India's security in deciding its military assistance to Pakistan," Swaraj said.

In April, the US approved sale of USD 952 million worth of attack helicopters, missiles and other defence equipment to Pakistan to help the country with its counter-terrorism operations, but said the deal would "not alter" the military balance in the region.

Don't worry much about US giving some outdated weapons to a beggar country. This is nothing new ..this has been going on for last 60 years. All India needs to do is to keep focusing on making its military so formidable that no one can dare to raise an evil eye on India. An eye for an eye is the only language Pakis understand.
As for Paki-Satan...internal fights and chaos will be enough to weaken and destroy this hateful country ...India does not have to do much.
Let Pakis shovel these weapons in their ass...Whats the use if the pakis are hungry, poor and living in dark without electricity. The time for them to eat grass is coming soon unless they change their policy of using terrorists. Let US/ Saudi keep throwing some crumbs at Paki to keep them happy.

This is very childish. As India's indigenous capability gets stronger, potential sellers will have less chance to sell to India, and therefore, they will try to sell others, and that includes Pakistan. Is there any diplomatic coercion that India can use? Can India threaten to supply Iran with lethal weapons? No. In that case, India can simply sport it up and move on.

Honestly I wonder if India is REALLY complaining or if this is just a matter of policy and procedure. "File a formal complaint every time anyone sells anything to Pakistan, so there is a record of it in the future if there are any issues and India can claim an "I told you so"."

I doubt that the Indian leadership actually cares or is offended. Complaints should be limited to game changers like air superiority fighters.

Also minsters have to be careful because if some idiot asks questions about any sell to an enemy country in Lok or Rajya sabha they can not say we are not doing anything just ignoring.

Not really ... we frown when screws are sold so no one dares to sell guns.

Those weapons will be used against the Sindhi and Baloch freedom fighters, hence the concerns are genuine. Nobody goes sleepless, it is just standard procedure.

Why should we allow sale of a single bullet to Pakistan if we can stop it?

Nothing is going to happen. Show whatever concern one can show. The fact it, these weapons must be used by Pak against terrorists not India. Keep them busy

Well if its policy and procedure then its a damn pathetic one because it puts your armed services in discredit and shows lack of confidence. India is the largest arms buyer in the world triggering an weapon race in the region yet the smaller countries are less vocal and least complaining.

Read your own post first. Since when do you 'allow' weapon sales to Pakistan. You couldn't even.stop Russia to sell RD-93 engins, the most crucial part of the JV, to Pakistan. To think you'll stop future FMS to.Pakustan, 9ne has to be delusional indeed
