GoI should use this opportunity to the fullest, although we claim PoK as ours, but in subdued manner. There must be more noise about CoK (Chinese occupied K) and PoK.

Wake up and smell the failure
[MAY BE A BIT OFF TOPIC BUT THE NEWS ON KARSHMIR CERTAINLY ADDS TO DA RECENT FAILURES OF PAKISTAN ]

Be it Barack Obama's recognition of India being a world power or his graceful better half dancing her way into Indian hearts, it has been a tough week in newsrooms, at least for Pakistan.

The message was clear and it will resonate with Pakistanis for years to come as the US and India draw out plans for an 'Amer-asian hegemony'.

Talk about a wake-up call for politicians, bureaucrats and all alike. After our own strategic talks with the US, a few weeks ago, ended in the usual pat and push for fighting the war on terror, the symbolism of the visit to India is bigger than the expansive trade deals and kind words of Barack Obama. The US president declared India a world power, and the India-US alliance "one of the defining partnerships of the 21st century".

On the other hand, Pakistan was snubbed when we were told to do more in the war against militancy during his visit. To make it all the worse, as if Pakistanis weren't already neglected enough, Obama went further than any US president before by backing India's pursuit for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. So much for the Kashmir dispute.

It begs the question why Obama didn't stop by for a day, or even a few hours, to say hello to his allies in Islamabad who have been fighting their war, suffering the casualties, and not to mention recovering from the worst flood the country has ever seen.

The answer is simple. Money is time and time is money, and Pakistan and Pakistanis haven't understood the value of either yet.

Our very existence has become India-centric; to be more precise we have spent more than half of a century in a military race against India. We discarded the precious gift every newly independent state is given of starting from scratch.

While we have officially become 'a client state with the Taliban and al Qaeda presence plotting to kill US soldiers and fanning the war in Afghanistan', India found a much more sustainable form of development and growth by India and for India. They have always been in the race for the long haul and instead of giving power to the military industrial complex or the landowning minority; they borrowed from western thought and civilisations and gave power to the people.

My father's favourite mantra is that "there are no shortcuts in life". I can't help but think how true those words lie in respect to Pakistan.

Our sole export seems to have become terror and while we beg for aid to cope with globalisation, the world recession, and not to mention the floods, India unveils deals worth $10 billion designed to create 50,000 American jobs in an ailing economy. That's right; India is creating jobs in the US.

They sought to be the largest democracy in the world and they achieved it, and we sought to be the most dangerous country of the world and we certainly achieved it.

And Pakistanis ask where do we go from here?
For many in our ruling class, the answer is simple even if they don't voice their thoughts — take shortcuts and survive another day till we reach a dead end.

Kashmir is India's 'internal' issue: US envoy

NEW DELHI: With Kashmir reportedly being excluded from the UN list of unresolved disputes, the US today said it was an "internal issue" of India and should be resolved bilaterally through negotiations with Pakistan.

"This is an internal issue for India. It is a bilateral issue between Pakistan and India, to discuss term, scope, character and pace," US Ambassador Timothy Roemer said.

He was asked to comment on UN excluding Kashmir from list of unresolved international issues.

"The (US) President ( Barack Obama), I think was very articulate on this issue of Kashmir. This is an internal issue for India," he said on the sidelines of a function here.

Roemer noted that during his visit, Obama had said that he encouraged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and people of India to engage with the government and people of Pakistan.

He underlined that whenever India and Pakistan talk, it will be at the "pace and character" of the two countries.

On Obama announcing support for India's bid for permanent UNSC membership, he said the US will now work to realise the promise.

"We are very proud about President's announcement that he is unequivocally and fervently in favour of India having a permanent seat in a reformed United Nations. It was one of the many highlights of (his) visit to India..We will be working to see that happen," Roemer said.

It seems that omission is deliberate and permanent and not some clerical error if one has to go by the statements of the Indian foreign ministry. In the mean time, let us allow Pakistanis delude themselves which they are an expert in.

India welcomes exclusion of J&K from U.N. disputes list

India on Monday welcomed the reported exclusion of Jammu and Kashmir from the list of unresolved international disputes.

It has been reported that U.N. has dropped Kashmir from the list of unresolved disputed. I think, if this step has been taken, I welcome it, Minister of State for External Affairs Praneet Kaur told reporters here.

We have always firmly maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India... This is a very welcome step and we hope that in same way the U.N. addresses our bilateral issues, she added.

Pakistan's envoy has lodged a protest against the omission of Jammu and Kashmir from a list of disputes under the observation of the U.N. Security Council.

The development has come as a setback to Pakistan which has been asking the world body to intervene on the issue.

One wonders if the omission is a fallout of president Obama's 'Historic' visit to India.Even more surprising that this happened right under Pakistan and China's eagle like watch.

Looks like allying with USA has started to pay dividends. This is a sign on things to come in future . We should take some courage from this type of support and take on china . If we fail now we can never succeed.

Bro I am not asking India to attack China and kill them all at once. I am taking about political offensive. They took parts of Kashmir, they took control of Gilgit and baltistan and now are issuing stapled Visa to kashmiris . what have we done. And stop talking about China being a powerful country and we should settle amicably. When china started supporting Pakistan they were at same level but that didn't stop them . When you have will you have way .

MEA's reaction says a lot, these chaps are as cautious as can be when it comes to giving reactions to such issues and would have not uttered a word had it not been a part of some well organized concerted effort. This is certainly no mistake but what puzzles me is there is not much coverage in our dallies or in the e-media, so is it one of those monthly reviews that happen or is this something permanent, because had it been permanent make no mistake the ever sensationalist times group would have had it flashed all over TN and ToI but its not even making it to the front page of ToI, somethings amiss there!

Let us see if any clarifications come in the next day or two. PTI says:

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has objected to the exclusion of Kashmir from a list of disputes under the observation of the Security Council as mentioned by the UK's top diplomat in an annual debate on UNSC reforms.

UK holds the presidency of UNSC this month.

now is this part of an on going debate where no reference to J&K was made by the UK diplomat or an official notification by the UNSC has been issued to this effect where the omission has been made? "¦"¦"¦"¦"¦ but then the MEA has also reacted "¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦.. I want to believe it, but "¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦"¦
