The first 20 (after the LSP 8) were ordered in March 2006. Inspite of Cabinet clearance, IAF has been negotiating with HAL for last 4 years to order next 20. That is to say that IAF has been finding excuses to drag its feet regarding the order. First they refused to place the order. Then they said 10-12 trainers. Then they said usual squadron level 20. So in some way or another, they don't want to give the order. The specifications and demands of IAF are interesting for instance, IAF is looking for some EW capabilities in LCA which neither present in MKI Or Mirage. On the other hand ADA is asking for 8+60 LCA i.e. 20+20+20 with present engine. I see fat chance of this happening.
