Amercans should disqualify themselves as experts when it comes to the explosion by North Korea. First most of the experts quoted are dubious nature, second, it is too early to know what was exploded, the explosion was totally contained.

That much brahoo by US is very contrary to pakistan's nuclear activities, where they seem to cheer them up by giving them additional F-16s.

Back to the subject, why is US in Korea, sixty years after armistice. The real issue is American 30,000 men at the DMZ. That is the reason North Korea wish to militarize more and more. Do not threaten them and they will not threaten you.

Supposing in five years, they miniturize their bomb and build a missile to deliver to California, then what has US achieved in sixty years of enmity at DMZ. End your presence at the DMZ and let north and south become one nation with same culture. After all the DMX line was drawn by imperialistic Douglas MacArthur in Korea. There are no reasons to be enemy for Koreans if the enemy is somebody else who artificially divided the country.

Total agree ,North Korea offered peace deal numerous time but the US said some bullshit about human right as a alibi for not signing it.You see a united Korea is a serious challenge to Japan and difficult to control,Japan will also increase their power to counter Korea and become more independent and 2 most important allies of US are gone.It the classic divide and rule .Stupid South Korea does not see through it .

In the 40s after the WW2 ended, USA quickly saw danger in the rising power of the CCP type organiszations under Mao.
Even earlier in early 40s, the USA saw the danger of the USSR under Stalin. Now with China also to account for, the US was fealing quite uneasy.
They envisaged Japan as extremely important to counter China. This is why they helped Japan reconstruct itself. And this is also one of the reasons for the Korean war. You see, a united and strong Korea in itself is a threat to Japan and such an entity under the influence of Communism (the USSR, the PRC) would mean Japan would not be able to counter anything and hence american influence in the region will die. And united korea would have been reality, considering that the USSR was willing to help without commiting troops and Mao was willing to and did commit troops (who drove back the UN supported troops from the Yalu all the way back to Seoul and beyond.)
The early leaders of SoKo were picked by the US and they were dictatorial in nature, because even in SoKo the support for communists (NoKo) was strong.
So yea it is the interest of the US, and that is why the top politicians installed in both SoKo and Japan will obey orders from Washington.

Even a Turkish brigade joined the Korean War.
Korean War: 1st Turkish Brigade’s Baptism of Fire

Comments by D. MacArthur: "The military situation in Korea is being followed with concern by the whole American public. But in these concerned days, the heroism shown by the Turks has given hope to the American nation. It has inculcated them with courage. The American public fully appreciates the value of the services rendered by the Turkish Brigade and knows that because of them the Eighth American Army could withdraw without disarray. The American public understands that the United Nations Forces in Korea were saved from encirclement and from falling in to the hands of the communists by the heroism shown by the Turks."
