I am interested in comparing rates of taxation in India with those of the UK and Australia so an idea of how much tax a middle ranking government employee would pay would be interesting. In addition, approx what salary would a middle ranking officer, major, police superindendant etc earn? What kind of a standard of living would this allow?

Cheers

The highest bracket is 30% of taxable income after exemptions.

The PPP factor is 2.4 for the year 2011.

So I would get salary figures from google. Divide by 50 to convert to USD. Then multiply by 2.4 to try to normalize standard of living.

Sorry I'm too lazy to do the googling of salary numbers but it should be easy to find. Good luck with your study.

I wouldn't worry about factoring standard of living, PPP is a worthless figure. A percentage is a good enough indicator.
