QUETTA: A Hindu trader along with his driver was kidnapped in the Ferozabad area, some 30 kilometres away from Khuzdar district, security officials said on Thursday.
According to Balochistan Levies, the trader identified as Dr Ashok Kumar, was a resident of Hyderabad and was on his way to Naal from Khuzdar in his pickup truck when a group of armed men intercepted and abducted the trader along with his driver and two labourers at gun point.
"The trader had come to finalise a deal about marble in Naal area," local Levies Official Hamidullah said.
However, the kidnappers released the two labourers, Mohammad Azam and Mohammad Yamin in Wadh. However, driver Azad Khan and Dr Ashok Kumar were still in the kidnapper's custody. Police suspect Dr Kumar has been abducted for ransom and have launched an investigation into the incident.
Khuzdar district has been declared a 'black-spot' by provincial minister for minorities Basant Lal Gulshan. He said that several Hindu traders had been kidnapped for ransom from Khuzdar, Kalat and Nasirabad division recently. Gulshan said that most of the abductees had been released after paying large sums of money as ransom.
The minister had even raised the issue of kidnappings during a session of the Balochistan Assembly but to not avail.:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:
