Re: India Now Commands The Strait Of Malacca With Naval Base 'INS Baaz'

Is it that important any more?
Oh, ani, you are spoiling lots of dream boys' fun. Let them have it.

IMO, the key ocean route domination, to India, is all the way to the Antarctica, where lays the resource for next generation(s) of Indians, and almost no qualified competitors... ...

I am afraid that the melting ice at the Arctic ocean is irreversible phenomena and India has no strategy at the moment to deal with its implications vis a vis Chinese trade routes.
Having said that, India still need to have wherewithal to dominate Indian Ocean.

Antarctica is a good point to consider. Lets see what unfolds.

Google Earth provided much better imagery and photos. Just search Cambell Bay and it will take you there

Re: India Now Commands The Strait Of Malacca With Naval Base 'INS Baaz'

I don't know what Antony is look at to make this claim?
# The Chinese have shorter route to their Eastern ports via Mediterranean through the North Arctic ocean. Even if it remains open for three months that is sufficient.

# Sunda and Lombo Channels through Sumatra are available as alternative Channels.

# The oil pipe line from Russian Siberia to China.
# The oil pipeline from Uzbekistan into Xinjian and the China.
# Iran Pakistan China gas pipeline under development.
# Possibility of supply of oil and gas through Karakoram Highway.

Antony has very valid reasons.

1)This will increase cost of goods why buy from China anymore?
2)3 months of trade a year does not sound like a viable alternative
3)NATO nations may not be to happy about Chinese going thru their waters

# Sunda Channel through Sumatra is is available as alternative Channel.

1)Australians and Indonesians may not be so cooperative most likely transit fee would be charged?
2) How does this avoid Indian ocean route?

# The oil pipe line fron Russian Siberia to China.
# The oil pipeline from Uzbekistan into Xinjian and the China.
# Iran Pakisan China gas pipline under development.
# Possibility of supply of oil and gas through Karakarom Highway.

3 landlocked routes useless for international exports
Karokarom highway may not be a possibility if USA getts more serious
about keeping China out of the persian gulf and the highway is very
narrow maybe too small for large tankers to drive thru and closed in
the winter for many months.
