Forget about "superpower". India will not reach that status, nor should it aspire for that status.

Despite all the hype India is currently nothing more than a key regional power. We are on our way to becoming a true global power, and that will be achieved purely on the backs of our rising military and economic clout and not Bollywood song-and-dance numbers (read my article).

Don't be too hard on yourself. :thumb:
Indians must not live in dreamland. India will never become a Super Power, there are several impediments. Soft Power is just a romantic idea, which has got no practical importance/implications. If you are not powerful economically/militarily nobody will give a damn about you. India is not a regional power either, we are just an important regional player.

India was a regional power in the 1970s, and India charted the destinies of two countries, but then, India also had Soviet backing, which it doesn't have now.

India -> Superpower
Unlikely.
Bharatvarsh/Hind Swaraj ->Superpower.
Possibly, if that day comes.

Annexing Pakistan and Bangladesh would be more a hindrance than propelling the state to Super Power status. The current demographics are more than enough to attain it, all that is needed is self sufficiency of resources. The rest is a matter of development and technology which will only be slowed by trying to take care of more impoverished lands.
