As Operation Pillar of Defense entered its third day, Gaza terror groups continued to fire rockets on southern Israeli communities. The IDF struck hundreds of targets in Gaza overnight and on Friday morning.
Around 1:30 pm an air raid siren was heard in Tel Aviv. The sound of a blast followed shortly thereafter. The rocket exploded in an open area. No injuries or damage were immediately reported.
Shortly before the rocket was launched, Hamas released a statement it had "a surprise" in store for Israel.
Earlier, a rocket exploded near a residential building in Beersheba, and another hit an Ashkelon parking lot.

Several rockets and mortar shells exploded in the Eshkol Regional Council after Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Kandil arrived in Gaza, nixing hopes for a lull. Two rockets exploded in the city of Kiryat Gat. Two rockets that were fired towards Gan Yavne and Hof Ashkelon were intercepted by the Iron Dome. Dozens of rockets were launched on Friday morning and the count continues to climb.

Palestinian sources reported that the IAF had struck the home of Muhammad Abu Shmala, the commander of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades' southern district. Another report claimed that one was killed and three were injured in an IDF strike in the northern Gaza city of Jabalia. The IDF denied attacking the region.

An anti-tank missile hit a jeep in the Eshkol Regional Council late on Friday morning. The vehicle was destroyed but the passengers managed to escape the attack.

Earlier Friday, two Grad rockets exploded in Ashdod, with one hitting a house's yard. Several people suffered panic attacks, and great damage was caused on the scene. Another rocket hit a house in the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council, causing considerable damage and igniting a fire. No injuries were immediately reported.

Meanwhile, rockets continued to fall in the Eshkol and Bnei Shimon regional councils, and air raid sirens sounded in Beersheba, Sderot, Ofakim and other towns in the vicinity. The Iron Dome intercepted several rockets fired on Beersheba and Ashkelon.

Some 250 terrorist targets, including underground launching pads, were hit in Gaza since Thursday night. An interior ministry building was bombed, according to Palestinian sources.

The IDF has struck more that 450 terrorist targets since the beginning of Operation Pillar of Defense. On Thursday, three Palestinians were killed in a strike on Beit Hanoun in the northern Strip.

Numerous mushroom clouds were seen over Gaza at around 6 am, mostly in the areas from which the Palestinians fire their rockets. No injuries have been reported as of yet.

Palestinian sources said that IDF jets twice bombed a civil service building belonging to the interior ministry in the Tel al-Awa neighborhood. It was reported that a fire was raging at the site.

According to another Palestinian report, the IAF bombed a top Hamas military operative's house. It wasn't immediately clear whether he was hit. It was further reported that a Hamas naval police station in Dir al-Balah in central Gaza was bombed.

Another report said that the IAF had struck a generator in the Shati refugee camp, not far from Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh's home.

yes.....round of only 40% being successfully intercepted..others hit the target....

waiting for some credible info from IDF sites ...

and the media propaganda starts from same we learned fro Assam

Till day before, I heard 30 intercepted from 137 fired as per an Iranian site.

Can you tell how many interceptor rockets were fired to hit those 30 incoming? I heard over 200 fired. It means the kill ratio is very less.

And yes that news snap is really funny. Looks like the guy is getting ready for take 2!

What is funny is how rockets get into the hands of Palestinians in Gaza when Israel has total control of the area and it's borders?
Egypt side of the border is not controlled by them.... so from Iran to sudan to egypt to gaza....thats a vast network in which they operate and smuggle....

I don't know how many rounds Fired ..but the Combat proven Ratio of the Iron dome less than 40%..

So Israel needs some more Technology to make Iron dome more powerfull..

and I got some sources that Hamas had rockets with only 48 Km Range..but how they travel over Tel Aviv..so more leathel than older one

1)India had to cross the LoC to cut off he supplies. We could not under political diktat
2) the land beyond LoC is OUR territory and we were well within our rights to enter our territory and also reclaim it like we ought to.
3) what about all the talk about teaching Pak a lesson/ break it apart when we give excuses like I was a small border war and Pak did not declare war and kept it limited? What stopped India from blowing the day lights out of Pakistan?

4) you agree ABV chickened out because of Pak Nukes.
5) 62 war was also a border war. It was not a full fletcher war. Nehru justified not using the air force cause he thought it would lead to an all out war and chickened out.

Both Nehru and ABV messed up their respective wars.
Nope, ABV never messed up, however Nehru Messed up in the most Blunderous manner!

We lost a major chunk of our territory in 1962 and were thrashed decisively .....This wasn't the case in 1999 -- I know what you are trying to do; however, it's impossible to convince me otherwise as you also know what is the truth!

------------------

1) In the case of 1962 war, where various fronts were open, India in 1999 had only one front to take on and the only need of the hour was to kill or throw back the infiltrators as they had a static figure because it wasn't a full fledged war where paki army could launch continuous offensive to fill the gaps! Hence, not going into paki territory was the prime decision!

2) You me and many others believe that land beyond LOC is ours; however, our weak foreign policy has already given up this fight, thanks to secular politicians -- 1962 was the starting point of losing land and it has continued till date!

3) As I have been repeatedly saying that pakistan did not claim to be part of the war and blamed Islamic Jihadis for the infiltration. Initially, word took it as a simple infiltration bid and had an opinion that India should not escalate this in to a nuclear war, which sounded logical - as combing out Jihadis would have looked as the desired objective!! Secondly, India has been facing a low intensity war since a long time, why haven't we crossed line of control on each occasion?

4) ABV did not chicken out because of paki Nuke Bluff but yes nuke was a card being flashed by Musharaff out in the open; however, ABV was of the opinion that by not escalating the situation into a full fledged war, India may attain the desired results, unlike in the case of Nehru who went around begging for a Nobel prize for his shameless antics and deliberately rendered armed forces weak to show how soft and peaceful India was...........The Biggest BLUNDER of Nehru was to Ignore all the Indications and inclinations of China's intentions, Nehru whet around singing 'Hindi Chni Bhai Bhai' and then suddenly when all hell broke lose implemented - Forward policy.....You gotta be a Dumbass to do what Nehru pulled off in 1962!

5) Nope, 1962 war came inside into the undisputed territory, Chinese was beating our ass black and blue, Nehru was busy with his lyre!

Yes, ABV did not nuke pakis to oblivion (but he never lost the war), however, he can never be compared with a jacka$$ such as Nehru who made us not just LOSE a WAR and lots of LAND!

India and paki topic can fit any thread on DFI!! :)

It's futile to suggest that we should only discuss the thread topic and not compare India with other world powers!

Jerusalem takes two Gaza missiles after two land in Tel Aviv. No casualties

Two rockets landed north of Jerusalem and at its northern edge Friday, Nov. 16, shortly after two Fajr rockets exploded in Tel Aviv. All four landed on open ground and caused no casualties. The siren was also heard in Jerusalem's outlying towns: Mevaseret Zion, Motza Ilit, Beitar Ilit, Kibbutz Maaleh Hahamisha, Ora and Har Adar. Hamas claimed the attack on Jerusalem which is roughly 85 kilometers from the Gaza Strip. Israeli ground forces continue to stand by on the Gaza border awaiting government orders to go in.

debkafile reported earflier Friday:

As Hamas government officials greeted Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Kandil on his arrival for a short visit to the Gaza Strip, Friday morning, Nov. 16, Palestinian rocket crews stepped up their barrage against Israel. After Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu acceded to Cairo's request to suspend military action for the visit, air strikes were resumed over northern Gaza to counter Palestinians fire across the South: Dozens of rockets exploded in Beersheba, Ashdod, Hof Ashkelon, Ashkelon, Shear Hanegev, Ofakim, Sderot, Eshkol and Kiryat Malachi. There were several panic victims and direct hits to houses.
Thursday night, long-range Fajr rockets exploded in Greater Tel Aviv region, Israel's urban and commercial heartland (3 million population) – two landing near Bat Yam or the sea and one or two between Rishon Lezion and Palmachim.
IDF armored, artillery and mechanized infantry units continued to stream to the Gaza border Thursday and Friday, gathering at jumping-off positions for crossing into the enclave in the next stage of the operation. Reservists are reporting for duty on the orders the defense minister issued for 30,000 call-ups. They are reporting at schools in various towns which were converted to registration stations.
Schools in the heavily battered south remain closed indefinitely and all locations within 40 kilometers stay on emergency footing for rocket attacks.
The IDF is rushing forward the completion of the fifth Iron Dome battery after the first four stopped some 150 incoming rockets in the last 48 hours.

debkafile:

Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz and the high IDF command are pushing for the ground operation, Stage B of the Pillar of Cloud operation, to start without delay. The prime minister and defense minister prefer to wait.
Thursday night, as the operation wound up its second day, the Israeli Air Force intensified its action, conducting 250 strikes across the territory, supported from the Mediterranean by the Israeli Navy. They targeted rocket-launching positions, stores, silos, arms and ordnance dumps and the eight tunnels snaking under the border fence for use in terrorist attacks and exploding booby-traps. A generator was hit near the residence of Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.
Our sources report that Thursday, some international airlines cancelled flights to Israel. International airline officials told debkafile that security in central Israel is uncertain after Palestinian rockets from Gaza reached the Tel Aviv area. They fear Ben Gurion international airport at Lod may be next.

The sources noted that the landing of a rocket in the sea off Bat Yam posed a serious aviation hazard because it occurred under the flight path of passenger planes bound for and departing Israel. Intense Israeli Air Force activity over Gaza was making commercial flights additionally "hazardous if not impossible," they said.
Air France was the first to reschedule flights and advise passengers to call in before setting out for their airport of departure.
Also on Thursday, the US embassy in Tel Aviv advised its nationals and staff to avoid non-essential travel to southern Israel and the children of staff to stay home from their schools in the Tel Aviv area.
A skeleton staff would operate the embassy with most of the diplomats and personnel taking the day off and staying home for their own safety, in case Yarkon Street where the building is situated were to come under Palestinian rocket fire.
