Government allocates Rs.5,000 crore to settle locals along China border

Alarmed with the lack of habitation near the border with China because of poor infrastructure, the Home Ministry has decided to push for an additional allocation of Rs.5,000 crore for resettling people along the frontier in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to sources since the area has almost no infrastructure, local residents have been pushed as far as 50 km from the border, making the areas more vulnerable to incursions by Chinese troops. In the past few years, there have been numerous incursions along the border.

"Until some years ago, there were villages with sizeable population up to five kilometre from the border. We need to resettle locals in these areas to prevent Chinese forces from breaking in," a government official said.

Territory claim

"If there are no people living in these areas, the Chinese can claim it to be their territory in case of a border dispute," the official said. According to sources, the fund of `5,000 crore, likely to be approved in the new government's first budget, will be over and above the earlier allocation of `28,000 crore. There are plans to build schools, hospitals, roads and provide all basic amenities to people living here.

According to sources, the new government is paying extra attention to issues related to the Indo-China frontier. The previous UPA government was under fire for being soft on China despite a series of incursions reported in the past few years.

Newly appointed Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh, stressed the need to enhance the deployment of troops, improve infrastructure and modernise the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to secure the border soon after taking charge.

The government has already shown urgency in expediting projects along the border that were stuck because the Environment Ministry was not giving clearance.

Environment Minister Prakash Javdekar, last week, said the government is working to fasttrack clearance for infrastructural projects in areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

With no roads in high altitude border areas, patrolling is difficult and the frontier has become vulnerable to Chinese incursions. Sources said several road projects were stuck for nearly 10 years.

The government has also approved an increase in the deployment of the ITBP personnel to guard the border. The Home Ministry has approved the building of 54 new outposts along the China border.

A proposal was made by ITBP before the elections but the previous government did not act on it. With the new outposts, the number of troops on the ground will also increase in number. Currently, there are close to 40 outposts and nearly 15,000 personnel guarding the sensitive zone. According to sources the number could now go up to 30,000.

the terrain is not suitable for living only few tribal's lived there for better opportunity they r leaving the area

but govt want to relocate them by bribing (or providing services at border) is waste of time &money

Chinese wont stop incursion the CHEAP&BEST solution is BD MUSLIMS  if at all chinese soldiers came there they say chinese killed their 3 kids &6 ra*** and produce proofs also and our Secular media go gaga :p
Haha you are correct about BD Muslims they thrive in harsh condition but relocating BD people will only back fire since locals do not like it.

. Better solution is relocating the familes of locals who are mostly served GOI.

. There is a comprehensive detailed plan for that taking every factor into account.

Re: Government allocates Rs.5,000 crore to settle locals along China b

Chinese are doing this for years.

Recently there was a news of PLA clearing large amount of trees along Arunachal-China border.

Search Google earth along borders you will find more villages and town on Chinese side. Heck I found many structures like a good population living on the slopes and valleys in area between Sikkim and Bhutan.
