Ghanta block hoga. Everyone's playing to their own galleries. Nothing will change. Indo US cooperation occurs on too many levels to be halted over silly Trump's antics.

American NGO woman involved in anti-Kudankulam protests deported

The Centre on Thursday told the Delhi HC that it had deported an American entrepreneur and later blacklisted her as some of her activities had political overtones. She had made false assertions in her business visa application, it added.

Kasha Elizabeth Vande (48) organised an art exhibition against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tirunelveli, the Centre told the Court. She was doing charity work and NGO activities for which there was a different visa.

She could not carry out those activities under a business visa, it added. Kasha was deported on January 5, even before the matter had reached the courts. Kasha’s lawyer said that she had organised the art exhibition in 2013, despite which the government had renewed her business visa in 2017 for another 10 years. Kasha also claimed that she had been residing in India for 10 years before her deportation. A plea was moved challenging her detention at the Chennai airport when she had returned from the US.

The lawyer sought interim orders for allowing his client to return to India as she was the organiser of a popular photo exhibition ‘PondyPHOTO’, scheduled to be held this year in Puducherry. But the Court refrained from passing any interim directions, saying the matter required longer hearing.

India a 'responsible steward' in Indo-Pacific :US

The US sees India as a "responsible steward" in the Indo-Pacific region, and values the role New Delhi can play in regional and global security, Defence Secretary James Mattis said on Saturday.

Mattiis said the US is strengthening its partnership with India, as its strategic interests converge with that of the South Asian country.

"In South Asia we are strengthening our partnerships, particularly with India. Prime Minister Modi's remarks last evening underscored India's role as a leader and responsible steward in the Indo-Pacific region," he said at the Shangri-La Dialogue, the annual security meet in Singapore.

"The U.S. values the role India can play in regional and global security, and we view the U.S.-India relationship as a natural partnership between the world's two largest democracies, based on a convergence of strategic interests, shared values, and respect for a rule-based international order."

The Trump administration has made "a free and open Indo-Pacific" — a term replacing the more widely used "Asia Pacific" label to acknowledge a role played by India . And in a symbolic move recognizing the growing importance of the Indian Ocean, the US military on Wednesday renamed its Pacific Command the Indo-Pacific Command.

Mattis said the US' regional cooperation is growing in a range of areas, consistent with these shared objectives.

"Our partnership extends beyond the Indo-Pacific region, and we welcome India's continued significant contributions to stability reconstruction in Afghanistan."

During a subsequent question and answer session after the speech, Matttis said India is a stabilising force and is operating in the best interest of the region and the world, "as they try to help through development funds to remove the root causes of why young men pick up guns...

"And so I like what India's doing there. I support it. I think we need more education and less fighting in the world, and I see India foremost in this effort in Afghanistan.

As usual the Umrican Bitch's choice of words is going to hurt the Umricans.
The arm twisting with Sanction on Russia +US trying to coerce India is not going to work. India has sustained worse when Its economy was in Shambles and USA was waging stances against India partnering with china and pakistan.
Oh Well!!! Now USA needs to carefully use the words with India and see it as a partner in business else will undo all the effort USA did in the past 3 years.

India mulls customs duty hike on 30 US products

India has now submitted a revised list of 30 items — including motor cycle, certain iron and steel goods, boric acid and lentils — to the WTO on which it proposes to raise customs duty by up to 50 per cent. As duties hiked by the US on certain steel and aluminium products would have implications of about USD 241 million on India, the raise in tariffs proposed by New Delhi too would have an equal implication on America.

“The US would be collecting $241 million worth of duties by hiking tariffs on certain steel and aluminium items from India, we also proposed to withdraw concessions of similar amount from these 30 products imported by India from the US,” a source said.

Earlier in May, India proposed to raise duties by up to 100 per cent on 20 products such as almonds, apple and specific motorcycles imported from the US.

The additional duty proposed to be hiked on these items ranges from 10 per cent to 100 per cent.

“The revision is being provided to adjust the products and the tariff rates in accordance with India’s rights reserved vide its notification to the Council for Trade in Goods contained in the WTO document…of May 18, 2018.

Comcasa: India wants reliability assurance

Besides availability of equipment at all times, India wants it put down in the agreement that the US will not share data from Indian platforms with another country and nor will it access this data without prior permission. Also, the choice to upgrade would rest with India and not determined by the US.

The US, for its part, has put a standard Comcasa template on the table and has so far suggested that these assurances can be given at the political level.
But India, sources said, has told the US delegation led by US deputy assistant secretary of Defence Joe Felter that it would want these assurances as legally binding elements in the agreement. Washington will now work on details and revert.

Trump administration's worldview is transactional - they are not interested in partnership - only what India brings to the table. But the question whether US or Russia is India's primary security partner is a valov question. We are in this situation because of our inablility to indegenize our defense equipment.
Regarding Comcasa, I don't see how the choice to upgrade remains with India. They will force us to regularly upgrade citing security concerns or they will stop sharing data.
Also, I am not sure how our US assets and Russian assets will share data. Essentially we will be having two stacks or silos of data and equipment not communicating with each other or US will pressure us into buying all communication equipment from them.
Our response should be delaying signing of Comcasa and discussing this in parliament.

India will not sign this. The news that India may buy 12 more P-8I's is only if there is no sanctions against S-400 buy.

That and additional Apaches for the IA. India is quite cleverly dangling the possibility of greater sales to avoid sanctions. Plus the fact remains that we are the sole manufacturer of Apache fuselages. They can't afford to put sanctions on us.

India buying anti-missile systems from Russia, and importing oil from Iran, doesn't affect, or barely afffects, the US. India is doing it for its own defense and energy requirements, respectively. For the US to try to bully India on this matter, is absolutely repulsive. On the other hand, what the US has historically done in Pakistan, has more directly affected India's security i.e actual weaponry which has killed Indian citizens, and massive financial assistance which allows Pakistan to fund terrorist activities in India and Afghanistan.

I don't think ruffling US feathers will make India a winner in any scenario US has many levers to use against India while India has close to none. Historically India always negotiates from a weaker position. US is pressuring India to buy THAAD . Don't be surprised when deal is announced.

S-400 is done deal, no matter how much tantrum yanks throw at us. However, in case of Iran it's different. In last Iran economic sanction, we stood by Iran but instead Iran had back stabbed us by putting Farzad-B Gas Field discovered by ONGC, on auction. So, the most sensible thing to do is slowdown oil import from Iran. Now it's time that Iran need to learn how to treat trusted partner.

We piss on CAATSA. Good that the US tin cans will be out of MMRCA and Rafale will likely get the deal.

Only question is what about armed drones? What are the comparable options to MQ9.

Tejas will be powered with Kaveri-Safran. We have enough stock of F404s for the present requirements, the impact on F414 that were supposed to power AMCA needs to be assessed.

P8Is are based on a commercial platform so spares and repairs should be less problematic. Moreover, none of them are critical systems as such. Missile systems, defence systems, combat jets on the other hand will be far more of a problem. This is why our critical systems should never ever be sourced from the US.
