The Chinese Army has not even one regular Regiment opposite of Ladakh. What you see on the satellite pictures are border defence troops. In case of tensions army units have first to travel all the way from Khotan. During summer usally a Regiment or two are sent there for training from Xinjiang.
They do have some APC on the Aksai Chin. The type 92 APC can swim too, so the Chinese don't need ships to cross the lakes. The APCs are there since at least the year 2010.
Some photos of Chinese APC's opposite Ladakh are here:
The important part of the text translates as: The border Defence Regiment in that area has an armoured bataillon stationed there since 2010.
State PR is what you are talking, In reality Border Guards are mostly doing aggressive patrols, But its PLA who make incursion for political drama, In 2009 there were a Platoon size Marine Unit crossed LAC and we have to show them way around ..
Long time since anything happened on this topic. I have now been looking at the Chinese side in Arunachal and at airfields.
Here are two videos - the first two of a series exploring Chinese roads in Tibet and Airfields relevant to India
Good videos. As I said, China can devote very little resources to India because of geography and because her most powerful rivals are all in the east.
