In 2008 Gautier published an op-ed in The Indian Express that accused Sonia Gandhi, leader of the Indian National Congress, of responsibility for the 2006 Mumbai train bombings. He said she had stopped India's intelligence agencies from investigating terror attacks, instead ordering them to focus on "Hindu terrorism".
