I really doubt China would be hiring washed up ex-USN pilots. They would want someone with direct knowledge of what they are trying to do. Hence the need for Su-33 pilots.

so the "mighty" PLAN has hired a couple of old retired U.S.N. pilots to train them:rofl:!this shows the pathetic condition of the PLAN naval aviation wing!heck they don't even know how to land their flying bus[i.e. J-15(laughing shark:taunt1:)] on their floating casino:pound:!on the other hand the IN has been training its pilots for decades now without any "foreign help"!now i am seriously doubting on the capability of PLAN pilots to face the IN pilots in case of an aerial engagement in the near future!

You can get Su-33 pilots from Russia more easily. Why American? They can't really help you with STOBAR like the Russians can.

Couldn't you tell by the deck crew's uniforms and drills that the Chinese plan model their carrier operations on that of the Americans? This Varyag is only one carrier, what about all those CATOBARs to come?

I won't be surprised if PLAN hired Americans! They have plenty of experiences and knowledge on how to operate a aircraft carrier. Learning from them can save milions dollars and years of time.

No, Russians may be able to help on Su-33 ( I believe PLAN hired some Russian experts for that), but Americans can be more helpful on aircraft carrier fleet. More importanly, PLAN is reforming itself more based on American system.

It isn't a CATOBAR carrier, it is of the Admiral K class and operates the same way. Trying to operate it like a Nimitz class will not work and US ex-officers would be at a loss.

if USN didn't help china train its pilot what make people think they will allow american to give out carrier operation to china. no its not happening, its like saying a retire cia work for russia. they cannot give out information relate to US navy carrier operation even after they retire, especially to a non-ally foreign military, there is a thing call non-disclosure aggreement:tsk:.

Well, there is always someone too greedy to reject a generous offer. Think about this, a couple of month business trip may bring you half millions dollars.

It would have been more believable if it was an ex-Air Boss. They have far more relevant knowledge of carrier operations than ex-pilots do. There isn't much advice but general knowledge
they could give on different aircraft types and landing configs for which they are not rated.

then that person has to be unpatriotic, and desperate need of cash. cause this will land him in the prison for long time. anything going on has to be done in underhand, which mean it wont be in the news. so no matter which way you look at it, its smell rumor.

if its such general knowledge then china wont need to hire US ex-sailor for consultant
any knoweldge they gain from carrier operation is consider sensitive. even they retired they cannot disclouse these knowledge to foreign military without approval from US government. if china are able to hire ex-navy sailor, then the rest of world can do the same, and all the knowledge these sailor gain during their carrer are fair game, this is a national security issue.

I don't think daily carrier operations requires an NDA. There are plenty of books on the subject and even more coloured shirts willing to talk about it all day. There is nothing secret in those operations. There is still an argument whether a Navy SEAL signing a top-secret SCI was in violation revealing Spec-Ops procedures from a year prior. There won't be any legal action for an ex-Navy sailor not subject to SCI who served in the 80s.
