Despite huge subsidies, diesel is also more expensive in India than 136 other countries. Costing $2.46 at PPP, India is 23rd most expensive in diesel prices.

Imagine 1.5 a ltr in Venezuela!! As cheap as water!!

What it means is that even that small an amount is workable for the oil barons but when it reaches non producing countries so much margin apart from tax is added that it's price has gone through the roof.

India has to rationalize the taxnon petrol. We cannot keep paying 50% in all sorts of taxes on petrol.

A few days ago I saw a guy who had a modification to his TVS Moped. Apart from the petrol tank there was another storage facility for fuel. he had tied a can of Kerosene with a pipe supplying the kerosene into the vehicle.
He said it was much cheaper and he just had to visit to the ration shop instead of a petrol Bunk.

its time to move out of petrol and other hydrocarbon. many alternatives are there which require active contribution from all sectors like hydrogen blended petrol( research is underway in IITs and my DCE), biofuel from algae and all which are synthesized in spl water tube fed by carbon dioxide from powerplants and co2 producing industries. they grow in presence of sun and co2 from factories and then extracted from the water tubes, dried and squeezed and treated to make oil. its big thing.
but wait
capitalist bastards are against the humainty and want t rob the world out of its riches and peace to make supernormal profits. die capitalism.

Finally it has HAPPENED; BEER & PETROL are at the same PRICE now
Two Choices:
DRINK & WALK,
Or
Don't DRINK & DRIVE!

If Govt removes all taxes and duties, it wont be more than 25-26/ltr. Could anyone tell which country thus petrol is more expensive!

and petrol is 1.76 euros a liter, which is =113 rupees..

Standing in line for 2hrs just to get bread is hardly good. Chavez is doing the exact same thing that asshat Nehru did in India. Elites in Venezuela live a great life because no one judges them.

The breakdown of prices and VAT rates.

There is a lot of confusion about the breakdown of petrol and diesel pricing in India. Here are the components of the final price that we pay for petrol and diesel at the point of sale. This comes from the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas in his statement to the Rajya Sabha. The prices are for sale at Delhi.

The price of petrol and diesel in various states in India varies due to the differing rates of Value Added Tax (VAT) levied in different states. The VAT on petrol varies from 15 % to 33 % across states while it ranges from 9.08 % to 26 % across different states in India.

Here are the rates of VAT across various states in India (as of October 2010):

As these VAT rates are ad valorem, most of the states would be pleased with the rising crude oil prices. Higher prices means greater revenue for the state governments. Moreover, revenue accruing fromVAT constitutes a substantial amount of the states' total revenue from own resources, as high as one-third of the total revenue. For instance, in 2011-12, petrol and diesel account for nearly 33% (Rs.8,670 crore) of the total VAT income in Gujarat.

As the the exact figures for subsidies, central collections and states' collection are not available, it is not possible to ascertain whether the government is a net loser or a gainer with its subsidy bills and tax collections on fuel.

Yeah and so kerosene is given at a cheap rate in India at ration shops because of a SOB socialist who failed to provide gas connections to every damn home in India. Who screwed this nation so badly that people like you and me find it hard to believe that waiting 8 years for a two wheeler and 3 years for a telephone connection was too bloody normal.

In 1966 my grandfather bought a scooter after just 3 and 1/2 of waiting only because he booked it in Delhi. It was 6 years in Bhopal.

He is a fricking communists and that is the reason why despite being the 7th largest oil exporter that entire nation is in sorry state.

Petrol, Diesel, LPG is really expensive now. Almost price doubled in last few years. 30 to 70 Rs in just few years. Sad for 90% Indian.

Thats because most of the moolah is being spent on social welfare. Poverty reduced by a quarter in the last decade.

Comparing India and Venezuela is moot.

My friend, 7th largest exporter of oil in the entire world, much more than most arabs, as a nation still struggling with poverty. Compare its condition with other South American countries if not India.

Chile, a nation whose geographical position sucks, produces no oil, has less land than Venezuela and nearly equal population. Still it has better HDI and less poverty. My next examples would be Argentina and Brazil.

I don't understand why do feel the need to defend that buffoon of a leader.

I remember in the 90s Petrol was 15Rs then after this growth story now its has quadrupled!

Sometimes i feel the communists should atleast get half a terms so they can bring down these prices.
