KARACHI: Following attacks on vaccination volunteers in Karachi, the World Health Organization (WHO) anti-polio campaigns has been stopped in the city.

Four female workers of the campaign were killed while performing their duties in the Landhi and Orangi Town areas of the city. Two male team members were also injured during the attack in Orangi Town.

Following the attacks, Sindh Health Secretary, Dr Sageer Ahmed condemned the attacks and issued a statement that the anti-polio drive had been halted in the city.

Earlier on Tuesday, a female worker of the anti-polio campaign was injured in Peshawar which prompted the WHO to recommend to stop the campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

How can the extremists justify this. Do they want a handcapped generation as the next stream of recruits?
I hear they eat a lot of dry fruits :dude:

Six health workers shot dead in coordinated Polio attack

GUNMEN killed five Pakistani women working on a UN-backed polio vaccination campaign in two different cities yesterday, a suspected Taliban attempt to counter an initiative the militant group opposes.

The attacks came a day after an unknown gunman killed a male volunteer for the World Health Organisation's anti-polio campaign in Pakistan's largest city, Karachi.

The government is in the middle of a three-day toddler vaccination campaign in the highest-risk parts of the country.

Four of the women were gunned down in Karachi, Sagheer Ahmed, the Health Minister for surrounding Sindh province, said. Two male workers were critically wounded in the shootings.

The government suspended the vaccination campaign in Karachi.

Gunmen on a motorcycle also shot to death a woman working on a government anti-polio campaign in a village near the northwestern city of Peshawar.

The Taliban has spoken out against polio vaccination in recent months, claiming the health workers are acting as spies for the US and the vaccine itself causes harm.
Pakistan is one of only three countries where the highly infectious crippling disease remains endemic, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria.

The government, teaming up with UN agencies, is on a nationwide campaign to give oral polio drops to 34 million children under the age of five.

Such vaccination programs have come under suspicion in the country since a Pakistani doctor ran a fake program last year to help the CIA track down Osama bin Laden.

It was the same issue here - many uneducated muslims claimed the Polio vaccine was a ruse to make the Muslims infertile.

And Pakistan moves further towards complete purity. A purer and purer society. More power to them.

This is pretty sad. They are basically destroying a child's life without the child having any control over it.
