Finally, India's
Carrier Fighter
Ready To Fly

.

.
.
The carrier variant of India's indigenous Light
Combat Aircraft (LCA Tejas) will make its
maiden flight in July
. It should be said that
confidence for the LCA Navy's first flight has taken its time coming. The programme team had
initially aimed at getting the naval trainer
prototype NP-1 airborne in December last year.
The DRDO's chief controller for aeronautical
programmes Dr Prahlada was recently quoted by anewspaper as saying, "Being the first flight of
the LCA naval programme, we want to ensure
that everything is put in place before the first flight and that the programme is as successful as the Indian Air Force (IAF) version which has had no
accidents since it started flight tests on January 4, 2001."

Thats Great,.......One more aircraft into IN inventory but offcourse with no Carrier to Operate. Right now the Mig-29Ks will be rested at an air field in Goa until Gorskhov arrives, same will with LCA Tejas if they are opted!!

The Induction of the Vikrant class aircraft carrier is likely to be commissioned by 2013 and same goes the LCA Naval version. Till then, The Requirements of IN could be changed like the Army and Airforce.
Only time will tell whether the Navy acquire Tejas or change their requirements and go for Bigger and Capable aircraft for the coming Domestic built Carriers.

Note - Could Mods can change the Thread/Topic name to "LCA Tejas(Naval Version) and its Importance" or with a better one. So we can have better Interest shown and more fruitfull discussions. Hope u all dont mind

Cheers,

Seems like the N-LCA would be a excellent option for Brazil. As the Skyhawks are very old and somewhat limited in capability.

The Brasilian carrier is old and somewhat limited in availability, like never. Brasil doesn't need a new fighter until they build their own carrier which is like... never.

Another question is why do they need an aircraft carrier in the first place ? They dont have neighbors like pakistan or china.

Well, the pilots will be better trained in the aircraft than the sailors are in the new carriers! That's the only positive side I can see.

Why do the US, UK need carriers? They have good neighbors.
Because the US is a warmongering nation and the UK still thinks that they are relevant (19th century mentality).

Interestingly, the UK does not currently have an operational carrier with fighters. I have a feeling that the one being built (Queen Elizabeth class) will be Britain's last carrier.

They don't need one. SA is actually a rather peaceful continent except for a couple border issues which don't affect Brasil. The biggest enemy is organised crime and you don't need an AC to deal with that.

Well Armand, what does France need the CDG for? I thought Europe was the most peaceful continent now (and the least militarily active). The biggest problem for France seems to be Unionized workers ... :D

I think any country having an AC has it for one of two reasons - naval status and power projection. :-D

So India too is a war mongering nation as it seeks to acquire so many carriers.

Let's get it straight. Big nations want to project power and want to dominate regions/world. To secure its interest and to make sure hostile intent from anyone else is dealt with. It's age old process. For that you need the best weapons system available.
