Actually in the future Brazil and Argentina might make good markets for Indian military exports. Who knows!

David Cameron: Britain will never surrender sovereignty of the Falkland Islands

David Cameron: Britain Will Never Surrender Sovereignty Of The Falkland Islands -- The Telegraph
3:42PM GMT 23 Dec 2011

In his Christmas message to the islands, the Prime Minister said he could not accept challenges by Argentina to their right to self-determination.

He condemned what he described as ''unjustified and counterproductive'' efforts by the government in Buenos Aires to disrupt shipping links to the islands.

His intervention comes after Argentina led a group of South American nations in banning ships flying the Falklands flag from docking at their ports.

In his message, Mr Cameron declared: ''Whatever challenges we face in the UK, the British Government's commitment to the security and prosperity of the overseas territories, including the Falklands, remains undiminished.

''So let me be absolutely clear. We will always maintain our commitment to you on any question of sovereignty. Your right to self-determination is the cornerstone of our policy.

Britain must show Argentina that it is serious

''We will never negotiate on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands unless you, the Falkland Islanders, so wish. No democracy could ever do otherwise.''

The ban on Falklands-flagged ships by the Mercosur bloc - which also includes Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay - is the latest flare-up between Britain and Argentina over the islands.

Buenos Aires - which has long claimed sovereignty over the territory it calls the Malvinas - reacted angrily last year when Britain allowed offshore drilling for oil in the islands' waters.

The Argentinians were also irritated by the recent announcement of Prince William's forthcoming RAF posting to the islands.

Mr Cameron insisted he wanted a ''constructive relationship'' with Argentina, but said that its attitude to the Falklands was unacceptable.

''Argentina continues its unjustified and counterproductive efforts to disrupt shipping around the islands and to deter business from engaging in legitimate commerce,'' he said.

''Threats to cut communication links between the islands and your neighbours in South America only reflect badly on those who make them.

''I firmly believe that it is in our interests that we have a constructive relationship with Argentina. There is common ground to be found on issues like the global economy and climate change.

''We want to work with Argentina on those issues. But the Argentine government has continued to make statements which challenge your right to self-determination, and we can never accept that.

The Argentinian army was clearly outmatched last time, as a practical matter, not to mention the loss of Belgrano. If Brits can afford to provide an adequate garrison, including AA defense, Argentina can bluster from now to Kingdom come IMHO.

And the Brits will sell the Pakis some EF and other stuff. There is no way Argentina is getting Falklands.
Will that bother us? I don't think so. A weak UK will need more friends than enemies to survive through the next decade and century. They just have to accept that their golden age is over.

Besides, Pakistan will not be having enough money to purchase those hi-tech stuff in sufficient quantity to make us jealous.

Threat of use of nuclear weapons is the only way Britain will be able to stop an invasion in the future.

They may well want to think on their naval downsize and acquire both the carriers of the Elizabeth class.

It is too soon to right the obituary for UK. It is still one of the most powerful and richest countries in the world. Its a member of NATO and a Nuclear power with a global reach.

Golden age of UK ended in the 1940's .It is not an empire anymore. But that does not mean it is going to disintegrate.

Doesn't matter if this is not the colonial era. If UK is made to give up Falklands it will hurt their pride too much and make them look like an ass.
We, despite our spineless leadership cannot think of losing any part of A&N. Will the Brits give up?
The difference is that we are much much closer to A&N than UK is to FIs. We have a rising economy, massive military and regional advantage. UK would be the most isolated enemy right now if they were to invade FIs, getting ready to fight Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela. And the three of them would simply cut open the Royal Navy.

UK has no hope to win this time if you people don't meddle. THey will be fighting against 3 major powers of South America this time, without an aircraft carrier, defense budget cuts and already fixated military in Afghanistan. While Argentines are weak themselves, with the more socialist new Brazilian government (very pro-Pan-South American) and a rather unrelenting Venezuela (building a powerful military force for the region), will make Royal Navy's life a living hell in the Falkland region. Simply because UK is not an expeditionary force anymore and is at its weakest.

They cannot even use the nuclear threat because that will cause a nuke rush in South America. That's the last thing you Americans want.

Between Britain and Falklands is located St.Helena Island. This is owned by UK and can be used for transit.
Argentine military , navy or AF is in no shape to fight Britain right now. In the Future if the other ponchos want to join them, atleast 1 Elizabeth class Carrier would be waiting to welcome them.

They would rather go the Ascension islands way and even then there is Tridade Island in between, if Brazil decides to back Argentina up UK would find it hard to reinforce.

UK can just threaten to use Tactical nukes. Whether this causes a nuclear arms race would be secondary to UK's territorial integrity.
