Explosion hits fertilizer plant north of Waco, Texas - CNN.com
"It was a like a nuclear bomb went off," Mayor Tommy Muska said. "Big old mushroom cloud. There are a lot of people that got hurt. There are a lot of people that will not be here tomorrow."

Fire officials fear that the number of casualties could rise as high as 60 to 70 dead, said Dr. George Smith, the emergency management system director of the city.

Dozens Killed, Hundreds Injured In Fertilizer Plant Explosion

WACO (CBSDFW.COM) - A fertilizer plant explosion in the town of West, north of Waco, has killed as many as 70 people and injured hundreds. However, no official numbers have been released.

Meanwhile, the residents of the town of 2,700 are being asked to evacuate due to ammonia fumes after the explosion of West Fertilizer. The plant is located at 1471 Jerry Mashek Drive, just off Interstate-35. School buses and ambulances are being used to evacuate residents from the area.

Firefighters had been called to the plant to battle a small fire around 7 p.m. Crews were working to bring the blaze under control when the explosion happened around 7:50 p.m. Officials have said firefighters are among the missing.

@pmaitra : The explosion takes place in West, a city near Waco, TX. Might wanna change the thread title.

Also note that
1. as of now, most news agencies are saying the death toll is between 5 and 15.
2. the name of the fertilizer company is West Fertilizer Co. The plant is owned by Adair Grain Inc.
3. the US Geological Survey recorded the explosion as a 2.1 (Richter magnitude) earthquake.

Also of interest: This explosion happens on April 17th 2013 in West, TX. The deadliest industrial accident in the US happens on April 16th 1947 in Texas City, TX (at least 581 dead)

15 dead and 160 injured, the death toll may reach 50.

Is this related to some terrorist attack? :hmm:

I expect its just an accident.

Asked which events pose the biggest threat to the safety of average Americans, 56 percent of respondents said random acts of violence, such as mass shootings, committed by Americans; 32 percent said foreign terrorism committed by non-Americans; and 13 percent said politically or religiously motivated domestic terrorism committed by Americans.
100% should have said their own goddamn driving.

Texas fertiliser plant blast: Fourteen bodies found

Police say there is no reason to believe the blast was not an accident

The number of people killed in an explosion at a US fertiliser plant has risen from 12 to 14, after officials recovered two more bodies.

Another 200 people were reportedly hurt in the blast in the state of Texas.

Texas US Senator John Cornyn said some 60 people were thought to still be missing, but stressed the number was expected to come down as search and rescue efforts continued.
