LCA is a dud.

+==

What is so wrong with EF typhoon ?
Dude have you been reading all the comparative trails against EF Vs Raf? Where all the censors compared to the Rafale..?

It does not even qualify as multirole fighter.

We already have 220+ Su-30Mkis, 65 MIG-29UPGs, 50 Mirage-2000 as a decent platform.

The addition of 126 Rafale and 200 LCA complements the deal perfectly.

In any two front was NATO or US would aid us so at times of war we can get stuff of the shelf.

singh we have to make dud into a champ and that will happen only when we use them .

we have to learn from china
China is producing knock offs, and has considerable reverse engineering skills. We are reinventing the wheel.

Let us assume Nato or US wouldn't aid us, it is not a foregone conclusion.

I agree with Saya need more platforms, and planes.

How many fighters do China-Pak combine has and what makes you so sure that NATO and US will help us. Suppose they dont then what. We are screwed good time. Nukes are only option then.

tell me our gdp growth now

do you really thik govt can or want to spend any single money to defence
yeah half of the money will come back to our eco, that will further improve growth. Plus defence is important. kuwait had all the money but not much in defence therefore they were overrun by Iraq.

Give a ~20 Billion deal to our hated old enemy the British in these touchy economic times???

Fvcking-NO-CHANCE!!!

P.S to that genius questioning the expenditure on defence during economic slowdown--our forces have to deal with largely outdated hardware and our defence manufacturing is stagnating(apart from missiles and rockets), the defence offsets if awarded to public or private companies will be like a steroidal boost to a weak boxer in the ring. India is technology and production deficient and we have a lot of catching up to do..

How about buying both ? or rejecting both and going straight with f-35 ?
I don't think we can afford both. Rather many of one type up and over the planned 126 aircraft.

Rafale is a complete fighter. With the way things are going we only have to worry about upgrades. EF, not so much. It will be equivalent to Rafale in capability only in 2018. Being a heavier fighter, it has the potential to exceed Rafale in avionics. But we will end up paying for that. EF is definitely a better aircraft, but I think IAF is leaning towards Rafale instead because it performs better at low altitudes and subsonic speeds, something like the F-16.

F-35 has not yet been offered to us. IN sent out RFIs a long time ago for the F-35 and supposedly Lockheed is yet to reply. So, we may see Rafale-M, SH and F-35 battle it out for a 72-80 aircraft contract. Rafale has the upper hand because of the IAF deal. There is a potential for 300-350 Rafales in India if we consider IAF, IN and 40 aircraft for SFC.

F-35 for IAF, no chance, because of the time frame. We need aircraft in 2015, F-35A won't be seeing IOC until 2019. Of course, ToT would be a problem.

I hope we buy a proper supersonic bomber with 10K range instead.

The problem is we are going to have to build it ourselves or join the Russian PAKDA program.
Its a no brainer really. Do a deal with the Russians to fund the program and in the meantime get a dozen Tu-22 's
