It was a juvenile pickpocket and the man is out of danger.
DRDO regional director stabbed by juvenile in Hyderabad - The Times of India

Excerpts :
HYDERABAD: A senior DRDO official was stabbed allegedly by a juvenile "pickpocket" while the boy was being chased by a group of people in the crowded Charminar area here on Sunday.

Regional director of a Koraput-based DRDO unit RK Satpathy was immediately rushed to a government hospital and his condition was stated to be out of danger, police said.

The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) said the incident has nothing to do with "DRDO affairs".

"Satpathy, who came for shopping in the Charminar area, was attacked by a knife by the juvenile who was fleeing from a group of people who were beating him," ACP (Charminar division) D Venkat Narsaiah told PTI.

"The teenager, a pickpocket and who seems to be addicted to sniffing whitener, was chased and caught by a group of people near Charminar area and was being beaten up. The DRDO official was standing near and the boy while fleeing attacked him," the ACP said based on preliminary investigation.

The boy managed to escape and efforts were on to nab him, police said.

This could be a conspiracy. Charminar area is one of the safest parts of Hyderabad, because it's communally sensitive, and has 24x7 deployment of street cops, RAF, and CRPF. Armed constables (most dressed in civil clothes, with concealed firearms), are never more than 40 meters apart, with seamless rotation. So petty thievery is impossible. Even a DRDO boss would feel safe venturing out there.

Don't buy the "pickpocket" BS.

Pickpocket should be a cover up by the officials so they can work in scenario without the civilians being noisy .
