'Sindh', here refers to the Sindhi people. And Sindhi people are part of India.

Here's the translation of the verse:

    Feroz Gandhi was a Muslim.

    But so what?

    What difference does it make?

Sonia has ensured all her children are Roman Catholics.

Vande mataram lyrics, both English and Devanagari:

। ५ ।। वन्दे मातरम् ।।

    English:

    Mother, I bow to thee!
    Rich with thy hurrying streams,
    bright with orchard gleams,
Cool with thy winds of delight,
Dark fields waving Mother of might,
    Mother free.

    Glory of moonlight dreams,
Over thy branches and lordly streams,
    Clad in thy blossoming trees,
    Mother, giver of ease
    Laughing low and sweet!
    Mother I kiss thy feet,
    Speaker sweet and low!
    Mother, to thee I bow.

Who hath said thou art weak in thy lands
When the sword flesh out in the seventy million hands
    And seventy million voices roar
Thy dreadful name from shore to shore?
With many strengths who art mighty and stored,
To thee I call Mother and Lord!
Though who savest, arise and save!
To her I cry who ever her foeman drove
    Back from plain and Sea
    And shook herself free.

Thou art wisdom, thou art law,
Thou art heart, our soul, our breath
Though art love divine, the awe
In our hearts that conquers death.
Thine the strength that nervs the arm,
Thine the beauty, thine the charm.
    Every image made divine
In our temples is but thine.

Thou art Durga, Lady and Queen,
With her hands that strike and her
    swords of sheen,
    Thou art Lakshmi lotus-throned,
    And the Muse a hundred-toned,
    Pure and perfect without peer,
    Mother lend thine ear,
    Rich with thy hurrying streams,
    Bright with thy orchard gleems,
    Dark of hue O candid-fair

In thy soul, with jewelled hair
    And thy glorious smile divine,
    Lovilest of all earthly lands,
    Showering wealth from well-stored hands!
    Mother, mother mine!
Mother sweet, I bow to thee,
    Mother great and free!

I really do not understand what the big deal is with song. As sehwag said this song had been used by countless freedom , who fought and died with the first two words (Vande Mataram , meaning Mother, I bow to thee!)

Same here with "The Star-spangled Banner" (Originally The Defense of Fort McHenry", written and set to music 200 years ago) :)

Not only can't most people sing it, many celebrities who sing it in public can't remember the words:shocked:

"Jana Gana Mana" was first used as the national anthem by S.C. Bose.

Jana gana mana refelects india's internal beauty.

It also reflects india's diversity of ethinicity who united under one great nation name india.
Jana gana mana is written by legendery poet rabindranath tagore.
Rabindranath tagore is the national poet of india.
He was the first asian and indian who gets nobel prize.
He rejects nighthood of british government.
His writting praised all over the world. He is undoubtly the greatest indian poet of india.
Rabindronath is the only person of the world who composed national anthome of three countries.
Do you think thats a joke.
Those illerate peope who question about jana gana mana and tagore writting are not worthy to understand tagore writting. To understand tagore writting and literature also require class which they don't have.
India's national anthom reflects india's idology of unity in diversity

    Re: India's National anthem

    1. Jana Gana Mana was not sung in honour of King George. That's a conspiracy theory
    2. Jana Gana Mana was never a popular song among freedom fighters
    3. Vande Mataram personified India as Durga, people felt that it wasn't secular (Tagore admitted this too) and hence Vande Mataram is not our national anthem

    Re: India's National anthem

There is no "Maa" in Jana Gana Mana. Are you confusing it with Vande Mataram ?

Fun fact: the person who wrote Sri Lanka's national anthem was a student of Tagore.

    Re: India's National anthem

The anthem of the Indian National Army and the Azad Hind Provisional Government was "Subh Sukh Chain", the Hindustani version of "Jana Gana Mana". Netaji didn't like the fact that the lyrics of Jana Gana Mana were highly Sanskritized.

    Re: India's National anthem

this forum should have only 3 thread. one for army, one for navy, one for airforce. because all defence topic will fall in one of those categories.

come'on man, this is pathetic. why would merge a new thread with 3 years old thread? now i can't see what's new issue/debate or the old one. "India's National anthem" is a different topic and "Do we deserve Jana Gana Mana as our National Anthem???" is whole different debate. you see? topic vs debate, are two different items. now this thread looks like a pile of shyt and can't follow any argument.

Jana Gana Mana was written by kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore to mock the arrival of George V to India.although he wrote the song due to the request by a high ranking Indian official (who was also his close friend)of the british raj to commemorate the first official visit of the then emperor of the british empire,Rabindranath was deeply annoyed seeing his friend's unnecessary devotion to an outside ruler.so he composed the song in an alligorical manner.the brits were mighty pleased hearing this amazing song which they thought glorified their king but the Indians who were present at the commemoration ceremony understood the under lying meaning of this song which was to glorify the Supreme Lord of the Indian destiny who was an eternal figure and not some mere mortal king or emperor!so i think we should stop discussing all those conspiracy theories regarding the origin of our national anthem when Kobiguru himself clarified the fact that it wasn't written to praise the brit king but its sole intention was to praise the Supreme Lord of India's destiny i.e. Bharatha Bhagya Vidhatha!

vegetarianism has made the hindus effeminate .

they cannot even impose vande mataram as national song because they are afraid of muslims who dislike the song because it comes from a novel which urged liberation of hindus from muslim tyranny .

I've always felt that "Saare Jahan Se Achcha" should be our national anthem. I have no problem with Jana Gana Mana, but I just feel that Saare Jahan Se Achcha has a more National Anthem meaning to it.
