It is very surprising for BBC to do such a sloppy job of reporting. as the news item from DMRC site clearly states that the Carbon Credits is due to the unique Regenerative Braking System and not for transporting millions as reported by BBC.

Had this been the reason IR would have been earning CCs worth Millions every year.

Hey man, do not insult me by throwing us in with Yanks. France is a separate country and environmental culture and have our own standards which are much higher than theirs. You can see our carbon footprint is only 1.25% of the globe while we are 5% of GDP. India is nearly 6% carbon emissions and only 2.7% of global GDP. Our economy is much cleaner per Kwh than any major economy on Earth.

You have warped the facts as usual, the average Frenche uses 6.1 barrels of oil, Average Indie uses only 1.4 barrels, Which MEANS Indians have a lower carbon foot print percapta. How do you call that clean? Also if you combine the EU its still the 3largest polluter and if you minus the points for the past 100yrs you dont go anywhere!

The only reason your nation as a whole is lower by GDP is because you rely on Nuclear power more and we all know that has its own side-effects.

well done DMRC!

i am sure in another few years even DTC with its go green initiative will earn the UN carbon credits, the only thing they need to do is make it more effective, the BRT corridor be better managed, well spread out connecting most of delhi and with over 3,000 buses on road and a targeted number of 6,000 they will sure move million more out of their personal conveyance and if bogota's transmilenio can, so can DTC.

DMRC has received the Carbon Credits due to the unique Regenrative Braking system. In simple language it means that everytime the trains brake, the traction motors generate electricity and it is transfered to the Over Head wires.

DMRC Prevents Emission of 90,000 Tonnes Carbon Dioxide

Electrical engineering is not my area of expertise, but isn't the electricity generated by braking stored in on-board batteries? How would they be transferred back to the overhead wires?

Well, it is both. The more people you carry, you are reducing their need to use diesel burning buses or using their cars. So yes, indirectly, they do have a point. However, what you mentioned is also correct.

Talking about going green and carbon credit, when I went to Taiwan earlier this year. I saw a very concerted effort to be environment friendly by the Taiwanese people and supported by their government.

Please don't be confused about general cleanliness & carbon credits for railway system.

Never before UN awarded carbon credits to any metro in the world. DMRC did it & its the only one in the world !

All those HST sellers & hail sophistication westerns should start learning :)
