IRDE Electronic panoramic sight for Arjun MK2 ..

So will this improved COAP be the standard COAP on the Mk.2 as the Mk.2 on display had the older/non-improved COAPs with the smaller Thermal imaging sight.

VEM Technologies Hyderabad also involves VLSI division my seniors and class mates worked there. Mostly VLSI people work on modules like algorithm implementation and Processor based control logic which are required in missile seekers. VEM also work for DRDO.

Sir, with respect to this pic, what is the radar used and what's it's purpose? I had believed that it housed the IRCM module and the IR sensor.

Also, if it's just a radar and doesn't house any optical/IR sensors, why haven't they covered that module with ERA tiles?

It is an assumption based on shape and size of the system, It said that it has to do with CLGM, I have same view about it ..

It has both optical and radar, Just like on an aircraft ( IRST with Radar ) and the material it covered by is not ERA but material which is same as Aircraft nose cone ..

It's a target acquisition system for it's missiles, that's well known by now.

Kunal, are you sure the COAPS above received TOT from Elbit? Did IRDE confirm the same?

Kunal, to have a radar it makes sense to mount it higher on back of turret for better coverage (line of sight). If the cover material was metal, then its not radome material which is usually a composite/FRP of some sort.

We have 100% conformation, Interestingly This was also told by a Israeli member here when we first discovered COAPs on Arjun at DFI .. :)

So, in essence, the CLGM uses that boxy thingy for target acquisition while the regular munitions need COAPS for target acquisition?

@Kunal Biswas I think the unit that is housed in the right of the turret is Elbit's ALWACS(Advanced Laser Warning and Countermeasures System). so, it indeed appears to be an IRCM suite. COAPS handles all munitions and CLGM, while the ALWACS provides protection against missiles and laser-guided munitions.

Wonderful. That means IRDE managed to reduce import content for even 118 MK2s by getting VEM to make these.

COAPs is commander sight only, All ammo is fired and targeted by Gunner sight, COAPs is a secondary Fire control system and can be used by commander only when needed ..

So, in essence, the CLGM uses that boxy thingy for target acquisition while the regular munitions need COAPS for target acquisition?
