T6 is Denal's, hadn't this company already been blacklisted by MoD?
project is alive and well.
saya, do you have info on this??

as for public info -

But in 2005 the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government cancelled an order for 400 anti-material rifles from South African manufacturer Denel, charging the firm with paying bribes. As a result, the deal with Denel to collaborate in establishing an ordinance factory at Nalanda in Bihar was also cancelled. The defence ministry also terminated the limited series production of an indigenous version of a self-propelled howitzer called Bhim, even though Bharat Earth Movers Ltd in Bangalore had set up production facilities at considerable expense. The Denel 155mm/52caliber towed howitzer the Indian Army was evaluating againat two other guns was dropped from consideration.

Thanks saya. Great work indeed. BR has also picked you activity. You may like to go there helping them know what those first seen robotic vehicles are. To me they are looking similar to DAKSH.

know that saya. but denel has been blacklisted. so my question whether DRDO is doing it by itself? may be with experience gained during denel's involvement?

Update on Bhim 155mm SP Howitzer

Requests for proposal (RfPs) sent out for a replacement gun for the now turret-less Bhim have resulted in a single vendor situation -- only one country has responded to the RfP: South Korea. The gun that has been put on the table is almost definitely the K9, manfuactured by Samsung Techwin.

New sub-machinegun can pierce bullet-proof jackets: DRDO

BY : IANS
India’s Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) says it has developed a modern sub-machinegun (SMG) that will be extremely useful in anti-terror operations as its ammunition is capable of piercing bullet-proof jackets.
“The SMG is 100 percent indigenous and specially designed to fight against militants in close combat. Its ammunition can pierce through bullet-proof jackets,” a DRDO official told IANS at the DefExpo 2010 land and naval systems exhibition here.
“The weapon incorporates a laser sight and has an effective range of 200 metres,” the official added.
“It is very light in weight and can be used as a single and multiple shot weapon,” the official said, adding that in rapid mode, it can fire 700 rounds per minute.
The SMG, which is currently undergoing field trials that are expected to be completed between April and June, is the third element of the 5.56 mm INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) family that DRDO has developed. The other two are an assault rifle and a carbine variant.
The DRDO SMG’s closest competitor is the Israeli Tavour assault rifle that is already in use with the Indian Army’s Special Forces.

Nigeria eyes Indian military hardware

BY : IANS
Oil-rich Nigeria, which annually allocates some 170 billion naira (over $1 billion) for defence, is actively eyeing Indian military hardware as it seeks to modernise its armed forces, says the African country’s defence minister.
“We are looking at everything,” Nigerian Defence Minister Abbe (who uses only one name) told IANS at the DefExpo land and naval warfare systems exhibition here.
“I am here on the invitation of the government of India to appreciate the level of development in this country in terms of military science and production capabilities,” said Abbe, a former general in the Nigerian Army.
“I have seen quite a lot. I believe we have wide windows for cooperation. There is a lot that can be matured,” the minister said.
He, however, refused to go into specifics, saying it was early days for that but constantly noted that “we are looking at everything”.
Responding to a question, he agreed there was the possibility of Indian companies, from the public as well as private sectors, setting up manufacturing facilities in his country to serve the needs of not only Nigeria but other African nations too.
“We have MoUs in a wide range of areas. It is now time go give life to these, particularly in the area of defence. We have to see what is of value for us in the mid and long terms,” Abbe noted.
“As for manufacturing, we have to see what is in the interest of both our countries.”
A Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) official said: “He asked us searching questions about the various roles the Dhruv can be employed in for civilian and military roles.”
“He was particularly impressed by the fact that 90 Dhruvs are flying, largely with the armed forces and that another 160 are on order,” the official added.
“The minister holds India in very high esteem and this visit is intended as an exploratory effort. We will see how to take it forward from here,” Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria Mahesh Sachdev said.
He also pointed out that Abbe had an India connection.
“He is a graduate of the Nigerian National Defence Academy where he was trained by Indian instructors,” Sachdev said.

Lockheed to deliver Hercules in Dec, expects more tenders

BY : PTI
American defence giant Lockheed Martin on Tuesday said it will deliver the first C-130J Hercules aircraft in December this year to the Indian Air Force and expressed hope to receive Letter of Request (LOR) for six more planes.
“We are hoping to receive the LOR for providing six additional aircraft by this year but can’t say when,” Lockheed’s India vice president Orville Prins said in New Delhi.
He said the company was preparing for the delivery of the C-130J to the IAF and was ready to deliver the first aircraft in December this year, three months ahead of their planned induction in the first quarter of 2011.
In 2008, IAF had ordered six C-130Js for Special Forces, with an option for six more as follow on order.
Lockheed has already helped IAF to set up infrastructure for basing 12 C-130Js at its Hindan air base near here.
Talking further about the C-130J contract, Prins said the order includes three years of initial support, crew training and maintenance technicians, spares, ground support and test equipment, and a team of technical specialists who will be based in India during the three year initial support period.
Also included is India-unique operational equipment designed to increase Special Operations capabilities.
He added that several other departments including the Border Security Force, the Coast Guard and the weather department have shown interest in procuring the aircraft.
